All dogs go to heaven - Matthew 10:29, NIV: "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care." (I know the scripture is about birds, but I think of this quote when a member of our fur family goes to its "New Home".) Blessings - Merry Christmas

I know exactly how you feel. Labs are the best dogs IMO. Sorry about your loss, I know how that feels. We had ours for 14 and the ole girl had bad hips and her chin whiskers were all gray.

Beautiful heirloom piece. I bet the owner(s) got a thrill watching Tom rejuvenate it. I love watching the care and effort put into things that most of us just pass by. In 1976 I lived in a furnished apartment in Newport, KY and the "writing desk" was quite similar to this one. The owner, a widow in her late seventies, told us that her late husband's mom got it as a wedding gift in 1898. She was willing to sell it to us for $75 but alas, we were just starting out and $75 was 5 months' worth of groceries. I must confess though that Ella MADE THE SHOW. The opening shot of her in the kennel and the closing shot with Tom made the show a home run in my book. Thanks Tom - a bunch!

Just because you think no one will ever see it doesn't mean no one will ever see it. Someone would definitely notice that error in the drawer at some point. The house I am living in, the people spraying the texture on the walls didn't spray texture inside the area by the closet doors because they probably thought no one would ever see it. We saw it! It's much easier and cheaper to do things right the first time than to have to come back and fix it later.

There were some really nice nails there ! I often watch mudlarkers in London on YT finding things on the Thames shore and they often find old nails, Tudor nails and millions of hand made pins that at the time were used to keep clothing in place, it always amazes me that they survived being so delicate. I'm currently ebonising a late 19th century sideboard from a famous departement store in Paris. I rubbed it down ,cleaned it up, gave it two coats of mat black paint, rubbed it down with wire wool, insisting slightly on the edges to simulate wear but not too much. I then gave it a coat of shellac, rubbed it back again, then two coats of dark oak wax and rubbed down again and buffed, very pleased with the result. It doesn't compare with Tom's amazing work but it's fun and I enjoy knowing I did things. I also did the huge, very heavy oak over mantle mirror to match. I am going to place a large 19th century marble copy of the 'winged victory' on top on one side and an 18th century garden urn on the other.

Just stumbled across your channel. I have recently purchased an incredible Georgian style drop leaf desk and it needs some repair. The wood on the front looks like a tiger pattern. I am guessing, its from the late 1700's. There is splintering on some parts on the front. Only one drawer has not been repaired. Its in good shape but does need some repair. There are no indications on the piece to tell exactly where it is from or when, but I've been doing my own research. Anyway, I am really happy I came across your channel, you are so precise and explain every step of the way. Thank you so much!

I had thought In the very last scene that Dog was about to make an on-screen confession that she'd done in a chicken but no, it was an irresistible invitation to view what will surely be a triumph. The drawer pulls look original and so from the Regency period, as you mentioned at the beginning. And the secretaire top looks as if it's going to be fun. What a worthwhile restoration!

It's such a joy to watch this guy. His knowledge of time periods and workmanship of each Reminds me so much of my father. Dad was an architect not a craftsman, but when he created something or was repairing something, he was just a detail oriented. He strove to do the best he could to make it look nice again and if a functional piece, make it functional again. I got many of his tools and art items when he passed. Have used some and others are just stored away.

Definitely not the safest way to use a tablesaw. I did a video many years ago on tablesaw safety and there are a lot of old-timers in the emergency room with a mangled hand or missing fingers who all swear they have been working this way for 40 years and never had a problem. It just takes one slip up to ruin you hand and possible your entire career.

One of the technicians at our Polytechnic had no palm on his hand - well he had one, but it was a skin graft. Don't ever take the guards off a thicknessing machine… Not sure if anyone had tried to tell his fortune before the accident, but they certainly couldn't have done after that.

Tom -- you are & have been a great educator for me. I like that you identify issues, but most of all how to address them. I did not understand why you left the glued on runner proud -- I thought I was smarter and made the thickness the same as the old runner on a project last year, then realized why you do that -- the existing wood is not alway straight and you need the 'wiggle room' to make it fit with the planer. :() You have given me confidence and knowledge and have made my antique restoration hobby enjoyable. Now to attack my daughters' two antique chest of drawers we got at an auction this spring. It has been a great pleasure being your 'video apprentice', you have and are teaching me a great deal, and it is very much appreciated. Thank you! :)

Thank you, Tom. The everyday dresser drawers I use, opening and closing at least twice a day, are near 100 years old! I didn’t plan on owning an antique, it just snuck up on me. Lol. It still operates smoothly. Very sturdy. Still beautiful in it’s roughed up veneer life. The drawer pulls are “gorgeous” and still intact. Eight of them - with all the rage back then of Bakelite that looks like tortoise shell. See you another video, friend.😊👋🏼

Another great video Tom, working on that vintage and age of wood is like a time bomb, every move could explode in your hands. Whew! I sighed a big relief when you finally got the bottom and the rest of that drawer finished. And I too miss my lab. Lady, been over 45 yrs since I lost her, but she is fresh in my mind, Every time I look into Ella's face I see lady. thank you for bringing her along on these video's she's as much apart of them as you are. Thank you for shairing. ECF.

Well done, I did some draws on my mother's side board circa 1945 ,draw runners on draw and unit went so made new ones similar to you, but did not strip draws down still solid used pattermakers crank chisel to flatten the draw bottom, of my the unit draw guide's unscrewed and made new ones and screwed back in to situation. In my younger days. Worked all the years while my mum had it, then some one else got it and as still now still works about 47 years ago. Can't wait to see the bureau finished as I know it will turn out looking really good, as you always do. Thank you for taking us along. If it doesn't come out before Christmas have a lovely break and a very happy Christmas to you and your family.

This is so fortunate...I am restoring a chest of drawers of similar age and the drawers are in almost exactly the same state as yours are. It is reassuring to know we are using the same techniques, and to see how they should be employed by a master craftsman. Your videos and expertise make people like me produce better work, and that can only be good for the clients. Thank you.

Just started work on a 16th C Black Oak English chest. The hide glue and joints have all loosed and I’ve set aside three months of the shop’s time to give it the attention it needs. The sides have all got shrinkage issues and a small area of worm holes that we will fill and stabilize in a vacuum tank with stainable two part resin. I’ve been putting out feelers for a single period board that we can scavenge to resolve the shrinkage. We found the recipe for the original glue and the animal fat wax recipe that was use to stain it. We are setting up the casting corner to cast the bronze leather strap handle stay that is missing. When I bought it i thought I was just getting a pile of period wood to use in other pieces for repairs but it slowly is coming together. You did a beautiful job on that drawers. That’s no easy feat.

Wonderful attention to detail as you worked your way through the drawer repairs and keeping them as authentic as possible. Here we are a year later and trying to find part two. I"m in my 80's and dipped my hand into wood turning back in the 80"s and 90's and so enjoyed turning all the different types of wood. Any chance that you can direct me to part two of your Drawer Trouble video. Keep the great videos coming. Joe McGrath
