Obviously this video was filmed a while back ;) but here we are making a key for a old desk drawer English Make Secure Lever. It is a pretty simple key but I will take y'all step by step through the process in case you ever run up on one.
We also provide this service so if you need any keys made for antique locks please email pictures of the lock to selockandkey@gmail.com

Very much a skilled artisan. Can't help thinking how many blanks that might have taken some of us.

I bet Jason can make a key with a gas power demolition concrete saw! I use a small 90 degree boroscop to take a look at the levers .Good job.

I love it every time you bring an old lock back to life! Skill and appreciation seem like necessary components to making that happen. As always, huge thanks for sharing this with us!! These are some of my favorite videos by you and these are what got me loving your channel all those months ago... #badass #lockforce

I work on pianos and fool around with various devices in my spare time and your video is a perfect example of what I find lacking, no, better to say what I find missing, in the world generally now. The over arching component of your craftsmanship is the all critical skill called patience, and anymore I don’t see young people taking time to examine something, like an antique lock, closely and carefully and testing ideas and coming up with solutions for the myriad gadgets and appliances and things that inevitably break down in everyone’s lives. The throw away habit is piling up (landfills) while many resources shrunk. I should add that I certainly lack skills with software and electronics related to the current technological environment, so I’m no Mr Know It All, that’s certain. Point is, basic hand tool thinking and practice is under valued imo and if/when the grid goes down the modern world may find itself in dire need of people with the craft saavy and skills you demonstrate so ably in this video. You deserve great respect.

Hi Jason. Thanks for taking the time to do this video. Hippy flashback, and I was surprised that you didn't say that you feel the need for speed. Did you enter the Danger Zone ? Nice key, thanks again for taking the time to do this video. Oh I think the spring at the back, I think the draw was a cash draw. For the holding of the money, especially with the rounded part for coins maybe. Thanks again. Happy Thursday.

I love watching antique keys being made. But did you hear me scream to put the key in a vise and use needle files? The final key is darn near a work of art! Birchwood Casey's Brass Black?
@selock
@selock 3 жыл бұрын
:) I hesitate to use the vise cause I've never been thrilled with "soft jaws" and clamping the key can always cause marks that have to be filed out. I have been meaning to try the brass-> black but this is just gun blue! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z86Giqihz66vc58.html

most of our bit key blanks are just basic. Boss found somewhere to import ones that are a better price than the ILCOs.

@@brianromine5817 you probably have not seen in other videos where point out I don’t put pressure on the pull back motions when filing. You must charge a pretty penny for that pretty key 😀

:) It's not inexpensive but for these "easy" ones its not too bad, usually only $35-50. This one really would have only taken 10 minutes to do without all the camera moving, filming, and explaining so it works out to pretty decent /per hour breakdown

It's a drawer from an old cash till. Basically a wooden box with a drawer. When the drawer was pulled from the box a bell inside of the box would ring. Most of them also had a roll of paper on sticking out of the top for writing receipts. They went out of fashion when cashiers became common use.

I have a old stationary cabinet with the same style lock, but it has a backwards swastika stamped into it on the left side. How old could it be? And is it German Or Asian?
