Restoration of a VERY rare VARTA iron from 1900s. It was buried in the ground for a long time.I wanted to iron my shirts with a historical iron.So I decided to start this restoration project. Open subtitles for information.

It is called mica, it looks a bit like glass it was used in the doors of wood stoves at the turn of the century, it resists high temp that would break glass.
@PrayerRider8 ай бұрын
It was probably found buried in the ground somewhere or in a dump. Back in the late 19th or very early 20th century, people used to bury their old broken junk, ie, pots, pans, rugs, utensils, in the ground. I have found such things where I used to live as it used to be farmland before it was developed into city neighborhoods.

Artificially ‘aged’ to make the ‘restoration’ seem more legit.
@Khrystyna8532 ай бұрын
@@Julmaa87 Really? Pray tell, how do you get rust to form like that "artificially"?
@TheImpossiBelle2 ай бұрын
@@Khrystyna853I’m not going to judge the authenticity of the channel, but the rusting is the easy part, plenty of guides on how to do it online. What you can’t easily fake is *pitting*, where the rust has eaten away at the metal. Now obviously there is some pitting on the iron, but it’s fairly superficial compared to the amount of crap that was caked on it. There are plenty of restoration videos where the item isn’t half as rusty as this but has some severe pitting that either requires filler or adding more material via welding.
@Khrystyna8532 ай бұрын
@@TheImpossiBelle And then, there are plenty of instances in real life, where I, for example, have actually personally found old items in barns with this amount of rust on them, where the rust had initially formed so quickly that it sealed the item inside it, thereby preventing a lot of the pitting. Believe me, there are enough compromised items out there that deserve restoration, that people do not have to fake it. They'd still have to do the same amount of work to restore the piece, anyway - which is really the point. The energy and care of the restorer tells the true tale of their respect for old things, and how satisfying the process is when the restoration is successful. Most restorers would not take the chance of ruining an antique by deliberately compromising it. But, some people are cynical and miserable, and just want to hurt others with a crass comment, like the one above. Being an artist and restorer, I take it a bit personally. It's just too bad that some people aren't happy unless they've spoiled things for others...
