Is El Cabanyal the COOLEST Neighborhood in Valencia?
This is one of the most controversial neighborhoods in Valencia, Spain. It is an old fishermen's village but it transformed a lot in the past years. A lot of expats started living here. It has a very bohemian feel, small houses with authentic Valenican tiles and very colorful facades.
This neighborhood has a lot of good restaurants but also some places you would need to avoid as they can be sketchy.

We stayed at an airbnb in that neighborhood. When we first drove in I was taken aback by what the area looked like. I didn't want to spend the few days I stayed in Valencia in such a bad spot. It was still light out, but it was late in the evening. The next morning I took my dog for a walk and was surprised by the marvelous architecture. If I ever get to live in Valencia, it's highly likely that we'll move to El Cabanyal.

Love this tour, but hanging your laundry out to dry is not a sign of poverty in Spain like it would be in LA. I do it every day and I live in a solidly middle class building. It’s just the way of life here. (Why waste electricity on drying clothes?) Anyway I’m sure you know this, since you’ve lived in Spain for a while now. Just thought that was funny. Great tour. I really want to visit that neighborhood now! Thanks for the tour.

¡Hola Antoanetta!

When I first heard about the area I thought I would like to stay in one of the original fishing cottages. I loved the idea of staying at the beach. But after doing more research I decided not to book there, mainly because I would have to travel back into town to sightsee. Reviews did state that some areas were to be avoided at night. I choose El Carmen instead but I truly appreciate the bohemian feel and colorful antique tile of El Cabanyal . If possible can you list the places you visit in the comments section? I could not read the name of the seafood restaurant. All of them look intriguing and worth checking out.

What I noticed at the Malvarossa beach - lack of proper service along the promenade. Cafes and bars mostly look primitive a cheap. How disappointing it was! Beach sand is very dusty - I have not seen it anywhere else. If you grab the sand and throw it little up you will understand what I mean right away. It is not just sand, but sand with a lot of dust in it. If look at the water few meters away from the water line, you will see the very strange and totally untransparent water due to the same dust in the sand, but in in a water. It does not stay steadily untransparent, but only gets like that when every wave breaks (for a some seconds). And wide part of a beach is always wet for some reason - strange too.

@ANTOANETTA hi guys, a local here. yep, it's safe to come any time as a visitor. but for the ones thinking about to settle here, think twice. it really depends on the zone. there are a couple of areas you must totally avoid, where it's impossible to sleep, where you will witness your neighbor gangs selling drugs (and not just weed, there's a lot of heroin addicts). they will try hard to push you out of "their" streets if you don't play by "their rules", they are easily agitated and will threaten and harass you. street party is every night up to 2am, 3am or 4am every summer and police doesn't do anything about it. that said, 200m away from those areas it's totally quiet, small town vibe. most locals have developed some kind of blindness which allow them to ignore what's going on "over there" and just avoid the ugly areas as they don't exist. sad but true.

This is very easy to explain. The end of the cabañal is not the best place to live in,ok, but it is only that area. But to say in your video; OR Most Dangerous Neighbourhood by the Beach in Valencia. It was in the 80's and beginning of 90's, not anymore. I do not know why you have to say that to be honest. Tittle is not correct, and I do not think it is nice for Valencian people, even less for people from cabañal. Just because of the tittle I would press NO ME GUSTA. Sorry

Wel the neighborhood of cabañal was a very safe place in the past . But because of real state boom of the 90,s and 2000 the town hall ( ruled by the political party of PP ) started to abandon the neighborhood in order to destroy those houses and build taller buildings so a lot of neighbours left the neighboorhood and people without money started to get into houses by force and sometimes even some streets you could saw people selling drugs. The political party PP dereriorated the neighborhood in order to create a bad place to live But people fight to maintain alive the cabañal Some times even fighting against the police I live there when I was a Child un the 60,s and 70,s

All yachts are closer to the marina's entrance (closer to the sea) and very few inside. Unfortunately. So, inner marine mostly looks almost empty (not like in Alicante, where you can sit at marina and enjoy the yachts view). The neighbourhood of Malvarossa beach is just horrible - very poor, old, falling apart, full of tricky people and many gypsies. It has to be flatten by bulldozers completely and replaced with new, modern hotels, discos, restaurants, shops, fancy buildings to look presentable and attractive. Otherwise the way it is now ruins whole impression about the beaching in Valencia. I was very surprised and disappointed to find that arear right next to the beach. Have a lot of photos from those dangerous ruins - there is nothing cool at all.

If you’re watching this video, please be aware that she barely stepped two streets back into Cabanyal. The area close to the beach is nice and has great things to do/ places to eat. But MOST of the neighborhood looks more like how she described as poor and run down. If you’re able to renovate, I think it’s a great spot to buy an investment property. But it is really many years away from being desirable. I think it eventually will be though.
