It marked the 14th overall expulsion of Zidane's career, and meant he joined Cameroon's Rigobert Song as the only players ever to be sent off during two separate World Cup tournaments. He also became the fourth player red-carded in a World Cup final, in addition to being the first sent off in extra time.

Anybody that plays soccer knows there are those types of lowlife players who provoke and have no respect. Judging from his pitiful response and confession it sounds like Materazzi is one of those. If he had any class at all he would at least apologize for causing the incident. When you're playing soccer there are those guys that will just bug, pull your shirt when waiting for corners, sneak little elbows and talk sh-t. I can empathize with Zidane because these guys get under your skin and they normally always get away with it. The only thing that's too bad is considering the timing of the incident. He probably should of let this one go. Another thing to consider is how pathetic some of the players have gotten in recent years. The 2018 World Cup is on right now and in almost every game you have players taking dives and feigning injuries to draw cards. There just seems like there is little class anymore. Did Zidane show class when he did the headbutt? Not exactly, but at least he didn't jump on the ground and start rolling around like an idiot pretending to be hurt so he could get another player kicked out of the game.

I really can't understand all this hatred for materazzi, zidane said that if he wanted he could have his shirt after the game and he replied I'd prefer your sister. Ok we can spend hours talking about how much this is a bad taste answer, etc. but let's not forget that we are at A WORLD FINAL and that it is obvious and right that there is hatred and competition between the players and that Materazzi's response is not like that " absurd "indeed it is quite understandable and to tell the truth (at least in my opinion) it was zidane who was absolutely wrong by responding to an offense with violence (which as we later saw did not lead to anything good). however, during an interview with Materazzi 6/8 months ago they talked a little about what happened and asked him if he had met Zidane again after the incident, he said that he had seen him maybe 1/2 times but without having us never really talked about it and then added that anyway if he saw him now he would just compliment him on the fantastic player he was and the fantastic coach he is right now

An aging Italian team on its last legs and a French team even older who came out of retirement , both teams there in the final because of the lack of attacking, zidane dragging France to the final with penalties etc and Italy spurred on by the Italian scandal at home who despite a great performance in the quarter and semi albeit diving their way to a second round victory over Australia were poor in the final , a very poor World Cup only remembered for good German organization and zidane s walk of shame.
