I had a wanptek 60v 5a bench power supply. It blew up one day. I diagnosed the problem to be blown MOSFETs and diodes on the high side. the bridge rectifier was shorted also. A thermistor was also blown
I changed the MOSFETs and diodes. the rectifier then read as expected. i replaced the thermistor with a shorting wire.
Upon turning on, it blew again. So, I have no idea what's wrong with that. I've bought a replacement as I don't have time to mess about right now.
Here's the replacement! It seems good.

Throw it away?? Dude those capacitors alone are worth desoldering and keeping.

What's the ripple voltage under load? And what's the transient response? (Does it overshoot when turning on?)

That new unit looks quite useful. Congratulations! I was looking for a cheap power supply, but they all do only 30V and I need 48V and 42V for charging various bicycle batteries. If you are able to locate the issue with that old power supply, that would be great. Perhaps you can change the failing components once more and use your new power supply to inject some limited current after the bridge rectifier. Than you can perhaps see what gets hot without burning the new components. After viewing quite a few Louis Rosman video's, my first guess would be some shorted capacitor causing the current to go above the capacity of the mosfets/diodes. Good luck!

Mr Maximum Integer! You can get the 60v ones. They're readily accessible online. I have the same situation. I need 50v or so for my variance of projects! Yes. I really don't know what's wrong with it. It's something shorting on the high side. It's a dead short too, I know this because it blew the thermistor up within a split second! Shorted capacitor, hmm, I don't think it's that because when the MOSFETs and diodes were out, the rectifier was not shorted. 🤷‍♂️ Having said that, something is causing the MOSFETs to be shorted. I'll check again as you suggested.

Hi@@AntonyCartwright, I was trying to cheap-skate below 20 euro's or so. I guess I need to spend a little bit more... Perhaps injecting some safe voltage and low amount of current after the rectifier will heat up the culprit enough to let you feel which it is. If you limit the current coming from your new power supply to a few mA, the working components could survive. You probably don't have a thermal camera to help, but perhaps just touching everything with your fingers will give a clue. In one video I saw Louis demonstrating use of a swabstick with iso propyl alcohol to spot the heated component, by seeing where the alcohol would dry up faster than the other places. Have fun!

@@AntonyCartwright- to be honest, I don't know exactly. DHL says they start at 8GBP. Last time I sent someone in the UK a second hand statue, postage wasn't the issue, but the customs charged a hefty Brexit fee for VAT on the insured value. Interesting price though. Best I could find so far was 76 Euros (67GBP) for a DPS605U, including shipping from Spain and VAT. Did you find yours online? If so, where? (Perhaps with some better searching I can find a relatively cheap one here too..)

Ewooo! Oh yes, always! We don't have great sources of calcium in the UK. We have to make use of what we can!

at least for the price u get good controls but i be real, the same model is sold under different chinese brand, so it s just some generic chinese stuff rebranded over and over wanptek also sells the same model u just bought so i wouldnt trust these chinese crap box, their protections are minimum, if u use it to run some strange load like a hv module, it could even blow itself up when a cheap basic atx supply wouldnt i mean at least for the same thing, having one with better features and controls is still better probably expect it to blow up after the same time as the last one did too......

Meh, I mean i have the WPS3010H and i've powered many things, I even had a ton of LED's in series at 4V and it drew 8 watts, It was bright though.
