Kudos to that ant who continued fighting even after loosing its abdomen

Pure madness. An ant, having had its abdomen bitten off, proceeds to take down a termite. That I even get to see this...

It looked like the termite had the heavy artillery, with those big mandibles and head, but it was too heavy for it to deploy in a timely manner. The ants were much more agile and quick.

Nice video! If anyone wonder, the ants are Diacamma and the termites Macrotermes. As you note the potent sting of formers is very dangerous for the termites, but at the same time the slicing jasws of the latters can make short work of these ants' legs, anntennae and bodies, despite Diacamma actually having sturdier and heavier exoskeleton compared to many other ants. Also note that Macrotermes soldiers' defence is not purely mechanical (mandibles), but they utilyze complementary chemical weapons themselves (though often rather slow acting compared to a Diacamma ant's venom), secerning a wide array of labral and/or frontal gland secretions from their head. The precise composition of such secretions can vary widely among species , but usually these fluids serve as wond active poisons and also contain compunds that impede the healing of wounds (among others still). This make the final mortality rate of ants bite and wounded by Macrotermes noticeably higher than similar wounds without the application of these defensive fluids. Also for a farier confrontation, don't put the animals on a smooth surface as termites (unlike most -but not all- ants) don't have any kind of adhesive pads on their feet and can't grip smooth surfaces (this is beacuse in nature few ,if any, of such surfaces would be actually encountered by the termites, and those who are are simply build over), but they do need a good grip to engage in their effective "lunge-bite-return" attack patter. Cover the bottom of your container with something like filter paper, untreated paper towels, forest soils or a thin slab of actual wood (all just a bit humidifed), and the termites (plus any species without adhesive pads) will have the grip required to fight more properly. Bye.

That first round was some high level BJJ skills especially from the ant but i think they all were tired so they just rested lying on their back they forgot to train their cardio before the fight great Grappling match up loved it.

Reminds me of my childhood where I used to collect some soldier termites & weaver ants and put them to battle. I clearly remember that one weaver ant got decapitated instantly by a single bite of the termite 😅😂🤣

Insect stories said the last ant won. It might have lived longer, but the termite did its job. That ant isn't going to live much longer or do any more damage with 90% of its abdomen cut off.

Termites are usually less in number and 3-4 ants take on 1 termite and mostly win.

Ok the first fight was actually a tie. We all know you put another termite in there when you didn't have to because it was a draw. The ant stung the termite first but the venom didn't kill the termite until it had already severed the ant's abdomen. Without it, the ant cannot breathe and will die soon after. The second fight was clearly won by the termite. It cut off the ant's abdomen before the ant could sting it and therefore all it had to do was wait until the ant died. The termite was literally still moving when you said the termite stopped moving. Still great video.
