Nice work and properly done. Rob Gunter method is the way to go. My main anvil is similar to the anvil here in your video. I got it at a barn sale in Holland, NY in May 2001 for $65.00 So far I have used it as is and see no need to do anything to it as it is in great shape. Peter Wright 2 - 1 - 17

The harden plate which had been forge welded to form the top face of those old peter wrights is lucky to be 1/2 an inch thick bad idea to grind it .

So it's been 5 months since this was posted and I have a few questions. I'm sure you've heard the argument that you should weld on an anvils exspecialy with a SMAW (shielded metal arc welder) or stick welder as the heat affected zone will soften parts of the face. How has it held up so far? Any noticeable loss of rebound along the edges? It looked to be in really nice shape, I personally would have left it. That being said it sure did look fantastic when you were done. I have a 155 pound PW, and I liked it so much I got rid of my Hay Budden of the same size. I felt my PW was superior, and I sold the HB for a crazy amount. I'm amazed how much those will fetch to the right buyer.

Niiiice! Sounds like it rings a bit though, might need to mount it tighter and/or put a buffer material under it.

I sure wonder what the scribe "patent" is for. New invention! Like nobody else made any sort of anvil looking anvils, anvils that work like one, or anvil shaped objects before..

There should be mandatory prison time given to anybody who gets within 10 feet of any anvil with an angle grinder. Watching that was sickening.

What welding rod did you use?

I used plain mild steel rods instead of hard facing rods as I like soft edges on my anvils. It is much safer when I have other people using it who are new to blacksmithing as it dents instead of sending chips flying.
