I have a 9 year old Irish Setter who hates loud noises like fireworks, thunder and music. I built her safe places in the house for her to go when she’s scared and goes there. When I check on her to make sure she isn’t too stressed she is calm. She often goes there to sleep when there even when there isn’t anything scary going on.

Having an activity also helps anxiety in humans. I have social anxiety, but if I offer to do dishes at a family reunion, I calm right down. This stuff makes sense across all species if you think about it

My dog used to be a shivering mess. We tried all kinds of things; what worked best was turn the tv up & just hang out. The there was Calmzzz which worked great after taking the 7 days before July 4th. Eureka! Both dogs significantly calmer & alert. We used it daily for years. And then suddenly the formulation disappeared. It’s no longer made😢

I always recommend Bach Flower Remedy Mimulus for animals like this. It works in about two weeks. And only costs $20 CDN for the stuff and then you can dilute it also.

this entire episode is so so interesting. George is a very smart dog, and his traumatizing anxiety is wholly heartbreaking. 11:53 is one of the most interesting parts to me, behaviorally. Victoria says "fireworks" twice; watch how George's body language (eyes, breathing, alertness) responds each time... the transition from total bliss & comfort to clear panic/worry. wow. ❤‍🩹 however, we needed to hear a LOT more about the vet visit & the medication!! what happened there??

The fact they never said anything more about medication or anything is probably because they found it not necessary. She didn't say it's definitely a medication issue. The training itself really helped a lot. His anxiety was mostly from not having proper outlets and once Victoria implemented those he was fine. Why are you so worried about the medication?

Soo was the dog put on medication? No mention of owners walking him, or him interacting with other dogs or people.

The show only focuses on the issues the particular dog has. This one has no issue with walking or socializing so it's not shown. What would you want to see at that point? Just him walking perfectly fine on a leash? Him interacting with other dogs perfectly fine? There would be no point in showing that stuff in the limited amount of time the episode has.
