Anyone Can Put In A Steam Boiler... Not Everyone Should

When a secondary low water cut-off is required to be installed on a steam boiler due to CSD-1 code, sometimes the issue is "where?".
Many residential sized steam boilers do not have a tapping in the right location for the safety manual reset probe-type LWCO.
Certainly the wrong place for this probe is the one shown in this video.
Years ago, we found out the hard way that a LWCO probe located in the equalizer line is a call-back generator due to nuisance lock-outs.
My thanks to Dan Foley of Dan Foley Associates for setting me straight as to why this location is a bad idea.

Gotta love the WM top tapping no place for a skimming tee , its no wonder every thing is fouled out by manufacturers oil , was hoping to see which direction you were going to put the 2 new pig tails in . Thanks for alll the posts , editing, nd content

Looks so familiar. I had to redo a steam boiler that was installed by one of the bigger oil dealer service companies in my area, I can say it was so bad, I think they were tripping on LSD while doing the worst piping I have ever seen, every aspect of the install was wrong it was an ECT04 they had put a single riser 6" to a 90 into two mains, Whats a Hartford loop? and nothing even close on the dry returns they shorted both returns into one connection above the waterline it didn't stop there...... LOL

Do you have to be registered to work on steam in the us?, like across the pond we have gas safe etc & can anybody be held responsible for bad/ potentially dangerous work?

In so far as I know, there is no specific license for steam. A master plumber licence would cover it. As Frank Meadows (may he be at peace) once told me: "It takes 6 years to qualify to be a master plumber in the State of Maryland, it takes 6 seconds to add the words '...and heating' after your name."

@@gordonschweizer5154 maybe running base board heat off the old boiler at one time ? keeping the water hot with the aquastat, then a stat turns on a pump ?, They probably put the control back on the new boiler, cause; "well it was on the old boiler".
