This is my first experience with the Quest 3 and racing in VR. Overall the new Quest brings a lot to the table and might be right for you. It could also not be, and this will come down to how you plan to use it. Should you get one for sim racing?

Putting on the quest 3 vs the quest 2 was an insane noticeable difference for me. Text is perfectly legible and readable even in peripheral vision.

heyyy I really like your video! It gives me more understanding about the Quest 3 product! Actually I am also intending to purchase a VR headset for me, and I'm kinda tangled with selecting Quest 3, Pimax Crystal and Varjo Aero. Can you please tell me among the three products, which one would you recommend most? And when you select a VR headset, what factors do you think are the most important to consider?

i bought the Quest 3 to replace my rift s. and this thing awesome. im so happy with my purchase. and having a Huge "Cinema" with you at any time when away from home is just Awesome! Also i have no problems with the controllers getting mixed up with my hands. probbably because they hand tracking is disabled when using Controllers

@@Calbac-Senbreak the optics. It's much more clear. The image is much sharp and the fact that it is stand-alone is just awesome. Also the wireless PCVR is very good

Thank you for this video! Not too many people talk about the Quest 1 anymore. Screen door is my enemy, so I'm happy to hear it's basically gone. I'm thinking hard on whether I want to buy one because I know I won't be able to know firsthand until I have it. Just a simple question as you seem to be the only person from Quest 1, Is it actually worth the upgrade and if you have the money, or should people wait for something like the Quest 3 Lite or other headsets?

In my opinion, if you see yourself using it, it's worth it. The original quest did it's job, but the new one is much better. You could decide to wait for a bit just to see long term what people have to say (battery, accessories and software). I'll try to be thorough with a month review, but zero screen door, increased FOV and the depth/color sensors does make this a substantial upgrade from the original quest. In terms of racing I'll add that it lasts about 2 hours or so plugged into quest link (see Friday Livestream lol) Hope that helps!

I really liked the quest 3 but the usb c port on the headset was junk and kept disconnecting. It couldn’t handle being moved at all

I think my issues came down to poor lighting. I set my lets up for the video and I guess it was a little too dim. Not totally sure but I'm happy with mine too so far.

Not only is the quest 3 $500 vs the $1000 of big screen as said in the intro, but you also need the base stations and everything correct? Adding much more to the cost as well. Main reason I am not getting it, should my rig move around I dont want to move those, and I dont have space in my office with my main PC to even install them.

I noticed you have the discord overlay on at 6:04 - turning off overlays made a few vr games feel a lot smoother for me.

Thank you, I have a 3090, a 5950X, 64GB of Ram, and lots of storage. As for the recording of the software, I'm still figuring it out but I use Stream Labs to record and the sim rig screen is set up over HDMI. Before the Friday show I'll need to spend some time tweaking the set up.

Coming from the Rift S and yes it was worth it. 2 issues i had to overcome, battery life and airlink. Battery i solved by buying 2 powerbanks @20W airlink, image was soft and i had stutter issues, that i solved by using virtual desktop. Now it's a sweet little PC VR device, no regrets :)

How did you like the compression artifacts that occurs when using streaming to the headset? As quest 3 doesn't have an uncompressed displayport input. I tried another headset and video stream is compressed using h265 codec, causing a lot of extra work for the GPU (RTX 4070) and losing 20% of framerate plus added lag. It was the Pico 4, which I returned and kept my lovely Rift S with uncompressed DP.

You should probably get a link cable strap to secure it to your headset. Eliminates stress (wear and tear) on your USB-C port. 👍

I belive most text was more readable. on my last headset, I could barely read text on my steering wheel in F1, but with the Q3, text was way more clear. Overall, even if graphics are kind of down, the image was clear.

I notice you have the Quest 2 in the Oculus software, if i got a Quest 3, can they be swapped easily? I have Oculus tray tool and all my settings for the bitrate and FOV are set up in that, im wondering if switching back to the Quest 2 would interfere with all these settings. Hopefully I'll be happy enough to stay with the quest 3 when i upgrade but would like the option of switching between them.

Hope this reaches you in time, at one point I was testing a setup with USB extenders and had mixed results. Also if you want to go wireless I believe you need very fast wifi as I couldn't make it work.

You just need a PC with enough power to run it. How much is "enough" kind of depends on how low of image quality you are willing to accept. What are your PC specs now?

i wouldnt get this over the g2.. its not even close. i know that windows mixed reality can be clunky at first.. but its way better.. ive looked pretty intensively at the best unit for price.. i am running a 4090 and i havent gotten a better experience than the g2 overall. i have the quest 2 also (was my first)

@@blacknovella as an upgrade specifically for simracing it's probably not worth it over the g2. From what I have heard it's basically the same sharpness as the g2 but with better lenses. But if you like VR in general I can see why also g2 owners are interested in the quest 3

@@Hani_Santa yes I use my g2 specifically for simracing and basically nothing else. would be interested in the quest3 for untethered vr stuff but not sure if it's worth spending another 500 just for that if it's not at least as good as the reverb g2 for simraching

I have both and although i only spent a few hours with the Q3. i think its worth it. the G2 may have better resolution in the sweet spot but the Q3 has overall greater clarity . greater FOV and bonus is all the other features.. not mentions the future upgrades to come from quest. if you decide to wat 6 more months they will undoubtedly be more competitors but from this point on , the G2 is outdated.. its not perfect but its pretty good.

@@zydawn I have a different faceplate on my g2 and my sweetspot is therefore pretty big. Offcourse I have to see the Q3 myself and will probably buy it, but that's more for VR in general. I have doubts the difference is worth 500+ euro for simracing alone. Then I would probably save money for the Varjo Aero or Pimax Crystal. If you buy a Q3 128GB with an elite strap which all simracers probably need, it's already around 650 euro. If you buy the 512Gb version it's 850 euro's, well then you come close to the price of the Varjo Aero, that's without any doubt because I had it a bigger jump for simracing specifically.

I heared, that, when it is plugged into the PC via USB, the battery only lasts 30 minutes. Is that true? Does it charge while plugged into the PC and playing?

How good are you to notice the screen door effect? genuine question mate, because I've tried two different Quest 3 (got a replacement) and both have the most noticeable screen door effect, no need to look for it it's just there everywhere. I even took a through the lens photo and it's very clear. Never seen any screen door on the Quest 2 even so I don't think I'm sensitive to it. I've heard other people saying that the sde is gone (and others that can barely see it) so I'm wondering if there really is a difference so big between headsets.

Been seeing more and more reviews from non partnered people and alot are saying its just as uncomfortable as the quest 2 during longer play sessions. Kind of a bummer the default headset is 500 plus tax and then you need a headstrap with swappable batteries because again the battery life sucks, and a different facial interface. And before you know it your pushing 800 dollars. At that point you may as well just get big screen or wait for valve to announce what they been cooking.

I will wait to see what Pico5 comes up with, according to rumors, a resolution of 2500 by 2500 and also with the same lenses. In the cockpit that does not make much difference, but more sharpness in the distance. I have Pico4 so no update for me at the moment.

It depends on what's more important to you and what's your budget. The Pico loves getting some upgrades over Meta, so the standard resolution is probably higher. However, Meta has a much more accessible library and a much better operating system. Again, that depends on your preference. The Pico 5 Pro and the Pico 5 Pro Max will be an even more upgraded version, with specs outweighing the Quest 3. The Pro Max is supposed to have a 4k resolution for each eye. However, I'm sceptical since even an RTX 4090 can't run dual 4K and be above 60fps on most games.

If you buy the Pico 5 Ultra Max+ Plus+ Max edition you get a displayport which is pretty nice. It's also like $1000 so there's that unfortunately.

Nice one, that's my thoughts as well. I bought the Quest 3 though as a short term replacement for the Reverb G2, but also to try MR and standalone VR. I've never had a wireless headset before. I know a few folks who have bought a Quest 3 from a Pico 4 and that's a bit strange to be honest, like you I'm waiting for the Pico 5 but the behomouth Pro MAX edition which I'll then transition to my sim activities (MSFS/DCS World) and the Quest will be for wireless mobile gaming which will be a great combination.

Pico doesn't even sell to the United States, and if you purchase their products from abroad, good luck getting support or replacement parts. Also, the Pico 5 won't be out for a while.

Bitrate is very low on your actual gameplay video. If youre using the built in nvidia recording just up the bitrate.

I think at the moment I meant just resolution and details. I did not change settings so it could be back to back with the original quest so the settings were kind of low. Clarity was still good. That came down to the lenses I believe.

Personally, I consider that buying a quest 3 for sim racing-only purposes is completwly loosing the point of this headset. Standalone headsets are mainly designed to play vr games by their own, offering freedom of movement without the need of being plugged to a pc, but if your only intention is to play sim racing games through a pc, PCVR headsets are a far better choice. PCVR headsets are well known to have less latency, which is key for this type of gaming sessions, apart from the fact that you can achieve better image quality and detailing, which might be beneficial for immersion. I mean, if you are playing a Half Life Alyx type of game, in which 80% of the time you will be looking at close objects in small environments, the sharpness and higher resolutions shouldn't be that obvious, but in a racing game, most probably you will have to be looking much further for visual references, incoming turns or an opponent's car. To sum up, basically, taking into account the Quest 3's price point, which if analysed, for sim racing only is quite high, you can get such a really good PCVR headset with incomparible resolutions, fully SteamVR support and, overall, a better VR experience.

My biggest worry with Quest 3 is being able to properly push the display. I run my Quest 2 at 5400x2700 at 90hz to get 1:1 resolution and by my math I'll need to run the Quest 3 at like 7000x3700 to accomplish the same. This is probably not going to work out well in higher end games. Sucks that I have to consider buying a headset with a massively upgraded display and then likely gimp my graphics settings or resolution just to get it to run well. Guess it's time to upgrade my GPU... again.. Hopefully NVIDIA gets the 5000 series out soon lol.

for most of us it'll be a big boost in performance as we can turn down the high supersampling we have to use to make stuff look ok. I don't think you guys understand how low in the slider you're hitting the "max" resolution. I'm pretty sure this is going to be a performance boost for everyone

@@CaptainBlaine VR compositors and displays don't work like computer monitors. In order to run a Quest 2 at 1:1 resolution in the center you need to render at 5400x2700 despite the fact that the display is a lower resolution than that. Yes, I don't HAVE to do run it at that resolution, but I prefer getting the most out of my display.

Quest3 shouldn't run lower than 90hz is native settings are 90hz and 120hz experimental 72hz was for Quest1

@mcgritty8842 I'll explain, when people ask how long does the battery headset last its our job by choice to push the headset to the max to see and understand what circumstances will 2- 3 hours be typical for max use and 1-2 hrs maybe good for you and myself but for others it might not, someone might watch a movie for 2hrs then want to play vr or depending on the type of game it can cause more power to be used so the max battery of 3hrs can be reduced to 1hr 30min but if the battery was bigger and can last 6 hrs or more then the reduction time will still be good enough to last. So for me I purchased the 512 version and battery life isn't the Greatest for all the things I found to do just to test it out. But I will eventually be buying a battery pack for extending use so that can be an option I can share with someone else even if I don't need it for that many hours.

VR camera shake is so bad on recordings, I don't know how anyone can use VR and race with it shaking around so much.

Hey, not sure if you've ever tried vr before but in person its not that shakey, it feels natural and your eyes stabilise the shaking, your head does that naturally it just doesn't translate into recording

lack of eye tracking is a big negative... FoV rendering is amazing tech that would help with lower spec PC and even native quest games

Compression is really bad even in VD, godlike, AV1 bitrate. The road is all smudgy in Assetto Corsa. Display Port is the only way to go for simracing!

H264+ 400 bitrate is ok for racegames in VD. Link cable at 700-960 bit rate is great.

Why would you ever choose anything lower than 90Hz? - The choice is between 90Hz and 120Hz, period! - It was determined a long time ago that you need at least 90Hz to create proper realism in VR... Anything less is a compromise. Why bother? If your video card cant handle 90Hhz then you're in the wrong hobby! Lol...

I have a 4080 and a 7800x3d and found things look much better at 60-72 hz than struggling to get to 120, and I don't notice any difference in smoothness. tbh I have a 280 hz monitor and the 165 hz qd-oled alienware, and don't notice the difference. I shudder to think how your guy's games look as you try to hang onto 120 fps. The only thing that matters is consistency. I'd prefer 45 fps over 120 with some drops to 115. Even small drops hit like a ton of bricks

I ran the quest2@80 on a 1080ti and found that to be my feel good stable point but only stable in some sim racing games like AC, AMS2, iracing but not in others like ACC 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have a 4090 graphics card. I play Automobilista 2 in VR. I play wired. The quest 3 looks worse in the headset than the quest 2. I am really disappointed

setting issue. I went from a quest 2 to a 3 and noticed a big improvement.

@@harlanhughes5029 A cable. I’ve Been trying to play at 90hz. I’m going to try and lower it to 72/80hz. I’ve heard that can make the visuals better.

This looks terrible. People need to know what pC specs you have so they make a reasonable judgement on the performance. It looks like you are using 720p in game it's that bad
