Much easier than it used to be!
In this scenario, we are several decades after the last one, and are now tasked with quelling the rebellious Lombard ruler of Bari - Melus - for the Byzantine Empire. You've gotta escape Bari itself, regroup at an allied city, and then fight back to reclaim your home!

Took over Capua.. Within 7-8 minutes they had at least 50-60 units at my walls.. You had an easier time here Ornlu.

The HD version was quite a bit more difficult, but both are great scenarios. This scenario really retains the basic map layout of the Forgotten scenario, generally, and is all the better for it. I almost always go for Capua, even though they say the resources are not as plentiful, the resources ARE abundant

I took Potenza first but captured Capua halfway through and, yes, it also has ample resources nearby. This is a generous map once you can push back the aggressors.

7:15 Technically, you can stop Capua from being taken over by enemies if you leave your army there and block the spawn point of their army and tc/towers and proceed to kill their villagers. :P

@@JMarc516 The spawn point for the enemy army is near the city on the edge of the map, not inside it. It's been a while, but iirc I placed most of my army at the spawn point outside the city, and left a unit blocking the gate from closing(which won't trigger you taking over the city, you have to walk quite a bit inside), then as soon as I trigger the takeover to begin I moved some units in to block the buildings and kill their villagers. It's not really worth the effort, you have to know exactly where everything spawns and blocking the army spawns was finnicky. But it's a fun thing to do if you like breaking the game. :p

Yo! at the very start don't waste a heartbeat and rush to the north, the towers may hit the heroe only. - At any point where there are Knights and Light Cavalry of the grey scouts, taunt the LC with your scouts and make them pursue you, and of course ambush them. Follow suit with the knights. - Then go all the way north, cross the ford and stick to the border of the map, go all the way west and you will descend down to the blue city almost unscathed. - Take the 8 sheep at the left of Capua, and traverse inside the city to the south in single file (never touch the LOS of the flag) you need to go to the docks. - Stick to the westward limit on the map, go single file (avoid fighting the grey scouts there, maybe kill the light cavalry) all the way down, you must find another group of 8 sheep. Enter Potenza. - Now is a race to mine the stone deposits at the north over the city's ford, build a castle, garrison your crossbowmen and survive! Train Cataphracs to deal with pikemen and Huskarls! - After consuming the 16 sheep and schools of fish in the city's lake, fish with fishtraps.

Was worth watching - the walled castle helped a lot when endless green and yellow unit spam started... I built it a little further north to protect the mines.

The neat thing about starting in Capua is that it's easy to steal the sheep from the other town and bring them over, before you capture either of the cities. Makes for some smooth start

The horses are for triggers I think. I actually like the old FE style campaign more (with proper difficulty balance). They just had a lot more cool stuff and triggers that keeps things exciting for players and makes you wonder what might happen next. Like the Sfroza night strike at camp scenario, Indian save the princess and "passing through cave" scenario, Bari 3, Honfoglalás... I know Microsoft probably remade them because they look too amateur-ish, but it's actually more fun to have these kinds of non-standard campaign imo.

came here from Ornlu's Campaign Tier List Episode II to watch some Elite Cataphracts! wasn't disappointed :D :D

Started awkwardly not noticing the additional troops you get at the start as I had already made it down to Potenza with a handful of remaining original units. When I noticed I had troops outside Bari, I sent them to Capua where they got wiped out. That left me with about a dozen units defending the southern city. Melus and Lombardi bombarded my walls but they couldn't push through successfully to take the TC. Once I fought them off, I secured stone and castled up east and west of my base where I could gradually build to make a strong army of trebs, cataphracts and archers. After that it was all about capturing resources around the map and taking out bases one after another. Not the hardest but a bit time consuming.

I had a bug on this mission when I went to Potenza and the two gates received some damage and got on fire. When I tried to fix them, the HP would go up normally in the process but if I let a unit pass through the gate and then select the gate again the HP would be at a critical level everytime I had to destroy them and build new gates in place

Yeah that happened to me too. It seems to be a bug that occurs when other player's doors are given to the main player. It happens in a mission of El Cid too, if I recall correctly.

that was a bug that was present for some time after the first DLC was released. For some reason, the game had .... some issues with converted buildings, lol. Iirc, saving and reloading the save solved that problem.

Definitely choose Potenza.

The biggest difference between Potenza and Capua is the early game is ever so slightly more difficult with Capua imo because of the town layout and the fact that there are not as many ideal locations for castle placement and it is harder to go straight after Bari without eliminating Green, but a 3 TC boom is easily done as the enemy focuses on the town itself and not your expansions.

Yeah, you don't get any relics if you go to Capua. The only relic of the map will only spawn if the player chooses Potenza.

With the current AI you need to rush Green's castle and outpost camps otherwise u get overwhelmed

I believe they made it more fair but at the same time more boring, the previous version had a lot of variety and fin visuales and triggers

I just finished this mission... went to capua... and maaan it was hard... it was my first time ever playing this mission... had to try 4 times if i recall correctly

I also went to capua and it's super hard, seems going to the city on the right is easier

my solution to the spam was actually to spam friggin Longswordmen as they are the ONLY unit that is at least decent against every single Goth unit *and* can be massed early on - also, the byzantines get Champion so even without Blast Furnace, they are still decent. Allowed me to deal reasonably well with the first wave and get my castle up to help with the defense. After that, I had enough time to go imp and transition into a more "byzantines" army comp with cataphracts :3. But yeah, also took me several tries ... like pretty much every level in that campaign. That stuff is hard, man.

Taking Capua instead was not fun. You get surrounded completely and get less space to work with. After a few minutes I just restarted and took Potenza.

You also do not get any relics if you take Capua. The map will only have a single relic if you take Potenza.

same happened with potenza too ,also all resources are on the roads used by enemies so obtain them is impossible

@@alwaysangry2232 If the relic doesn't spawn if you take Potenza, you most likely encountered a glitch that requires restarting the entire scenario.

@@alwaysangry2232 Oh, I think you only get that after you liberate the city that you didn't choose from Melus' Garrison. They will only show up if you free Capua if you go to Potenza and vice-versa (after freeing Potenza if you go to Capua).
