In this scenario, Sforza must betray his own cousin to ensure his conquest of northern Italy for the Milanese. You must destroy each enemy Castle. However, each is very well defended, and you have few resources to get you going. I would recommend defensive play early on, and then focus on expanding out on the map and grinding down your opponents. Water control is nice too!

I started this scenario by placing the first TC next to the stone and let your first villagers mine it and build a castle on the coast in the first 3 minutes or so. Castle will kill any enemy ships and lets you build your docks in the north. Then get control of the river with cannon galleons and land a few trebs near the first castle.

This was a fun one. The last one before the final Sforza mission. You are surrounded by enemies but the bridges are blocking all the enemies. So you get time to boom and chill and then take the fight. First its important to use your navy and clear the Venetian (cyan) and Piacenza (green) docks. And once you have control over the water, use Cannon Galleons to destroy all coastal production buildings of Venetian (cyan) and Piacenza (green). Then organize an Army and take out Green's castle, Yellow castle and Cyan castle. I used a combination Arbalests, Hand Canoneers, Skirmishers, Trebs and Hussars to take out the annoying opposition Bombard cannons. I like this one. You get a chance to either attack at the start or take ur time, boom and then strategise.

Nice playthrough, Ornlu! Very effective approach to winning the scenario. You are correct that the AI in this scenario does NOT have infinite resource spam. The AI relies entirely on villager-based economies and does not even cheat resources. It will also adjust its unit composition based on yours, so that's why you saw them switch to Skirmishers when you went heavy Arbalest. In most cases, the campaigns I designed feature AIs with actual economies since I am not a fan of the infinite resource/unit spam model of enemies -- excepting of course the cases where it's obvious that is happening, such as Ivaylo 3 where you are in a DM against Nogai Khan or in Prithviraj 3 and 5. I hope you prefer that style of enemies in scenarios like this where it makes sense, but there are certainly pros/cons of both the organic and the spam approaches to enemy design.

Thanks for the insight as always man! I actually rant at length about my dislike of infinite unit spam scenarios from time to time, so I appreciate you minimizing them :P (Not that I hate it in all cases, but I think they should be as infrequent as scenarios where you don't get an eco). Related question: did you guys make/remake the campaigns separately, or did you work together in some way? Just curious because you can tell some stylistic similarities/differences between campaigns - like the ones you mention :)

@@OrnLu_AoE each scenario designer (there are currently four of us) had end-to-end autonomy/responsibility for each of our assigned campaigns. This is very different from the level design and narrative workflow used almost everywhere else in the industry, but works well for our team and gives each of us total control over our creative vision. What this means in practice is, for example, as the designer of the Sforza campaign, I not only designed the campaign's five scenarios end-to-end (map design, triggers, the AI, etc.) but also wrote all dialogues and the slides narration, provided the voice actors with instructions on emotion, timbre, etc., and gave the art team instructions on which images to create for the intro/outro slides. Hell, I even wrote the little introductory text that you see on the campaign menu when you select Sforza! Total creative control is nice :) This total control by an individual designer does certainly mean that our own individual design philosophies and approaches come to the fore. You can probably see similarities in the 5 campaigns I designed, as well as my personal evolution as a designer -- in order of when I made them: Almeida, Bayinnaung, Ivaylo, Prithviraj, Sforza. Elsewhere in the game, for example, Sundjata, Gajah Mada, and Kotyan were made by the same designer and Tariq, Suryavarman, and Tamerlane were made by a third designer. There are a few other campaigns, like Bari or Le Loi, which were made by multiple designers who each had their own scenario responsibilities.

When I played it felt like infinite spam. I assume that just means I'm not attacking fast enough, and the AI is just churning out units as long as they have the resources to do? Also thanks for what you do these campaigns are awesome. So sad I'm almost fully through.

I finished the green player first - so I could use His gold mines and trade with His market later. Next was teal player - I cleared northern coast with cannon galleons and landed 15 trebuchets who destroyed the Teal fortress before Condotieri reached them.

you can trade with a market even when the castle is destroyed? interesting

@@marnixds If an enemy resigns but doesn’t delete their buildings, you can still trade with their markets. In short any standing market can be traded with.

Somehow always manage to turn it into a kill fest of 2h. 1.3k units killed, 700 lost xDDD. Now in this case I was the one infinitely spamming Hussars :)

Small question, why do you build TCs next to resources instead of camps? Do the villagers mine/collect more efficiently?
@MythicOneOne
@MythicOneOne Жыл бұрын
TC's are tougher, can train more villagers and can garrison up to 15 villagers for defense. Building multiple TCs to quickly train more villagers is a staple of booming.

More TC means he can create more villigers at a time. Important in MP, but in campaigns you can just go for camps, if you're a slower player.
