It was great in the early internet at home era, and for novice users, a lot of fun.

I too got AOL in 2002, It was great back then. AOL 7 I believe it was? Like you said it was really great with all the free thing plus AOL Hometown was really cool as well for creating your own webpages etc. By the time AOL 9 rolled around is when it lost its charm for me. I got rid of AOL around 2006 so I shudder to think what it'd be like now days.

They screwed it up when the sold AOL UK to the stupid 'Car phone warehouse' in 2005. Overseas helplines where you can't understand what they say, constant loss of connection and DSL line down, the Crappy 'AOL is not responding' message and so on and so on........

AOL UK sucks. It was fine when I first got it in 2002 but since about 2005 its gone down hill rapidly. We used to have a free help line, chat rooms, message boards all sorts, now you get very little, constantly losing connection, overseas helplines which cost a fortune to use. AOL is crap!
