As a bootcamp teacher, I totally agree with Aona. Especially with #1. More focus is needed on the purpose of research, and the contextual use of each methodology! Great video! :)

I'm currently taking Google's UX design course via Coursera as I work on a UX web design project, and this really helped me bolster my research plan. Thank you so much for the clarification, Aona!

When I was in my UX Bootcamp, I had so much trouble coming up with the right interview questions. We did not spend enough time on the subject. Thank you so much for clarifying research vs. interview questions, now I can put it into practice.

Thank you so much Aona! This video was super helpful!!! I was reflecting throughout this video and I basically made all the mistakes that you mentioned above. As a self-taught designer, I thought that it was a requirement to complete all the UX research methods in a UX process. However, not until recently, I learned that I need to know the "why" I am performing certain steps in my case studies. I am going to listen to your advice and start on a brand new project soon. Thank you for another helpful video. I'm learning so so so much from you!

When I was in my bootcamp researching for a project I was struggling to understand the point of it and thought it was because I just wasn’t smart enough. Turns out it was because they skipped over the purpose entirely. This video puts so much about research into perspective!

Last year I resigned from my User Experience Operation job and pursued an MSc in Human Computer Interaction. Now I'm in the interview process to be a UX researcher. I am so influenced by your videos that in interviews I unconsciously cited your video and impressed my interviewers. I'm genuinely grateful to you. You are my virtual mentor and I wish you all the best.

Another quality video, Aona! Always enjoy your content. They are great new learnings and refreshers for me. I also came from a BootCamp and they spent maybe about 1 class going over UX Research in the Design BootCamp. Imagine going over all you need to know about UXR in 3 hours! As soon as I got out, I basically started taking on new projects for non-profits and some made-up ones. I made sure to include a retrospective and pitfall section for all my case studies to show that my research isn't perfect, given XYZ constraints, but here's how I attempted to answer the research objective. I'm now in my 3rd year as a UXR and boy were there many Ah-ha moments I had while watching this video that I had self-corrected those mistakes in the the past. Oh, by the way, just a small pointer: "rapport" is pronounced with a silent "t". If it can be pronounced with the "t" sound in certain regions, let me know! I might not know this! 😄

I love this!! Really appreciate detailed note - you were definitely doing all the right things there! And hey I never knew that the “t” is supposed to be silent so thank you for telling me 😊

I'm starting an internship next week where I'm doing research for re-designing some webpages for a medical library, and I'm glad I found your content. I've been so nervous and overwhelmed, but videos like this help focus me a little and prepare me for my project. My boss worked with me last semester, when I was doing UX research for the first time as part of a class (I'm a Library Science student, so my entire thing isn't all about UX research, it was just one class). And she was so impressed with my work she hired me as an intern on the spot. But now I was just following the assignments - practicing each technique as we went along the semester. Now it's totally up to me, and I'm so worried about letting her down when I no longer have that structure. It's so different than what I expected an internship to be, I thought I'd just be doing what the librarian said but I've been given the lead on the project and so far the only instruction I've been given is to do UX research for the rest of the pages and make re-design suggestions for all of them and make sure I organize the project around the report structure the school expects. And everything else I'm basically just doing on my own. I don't even have a team to work with, but I don't think I need one for this. I did the other project by myself (even though I was SUPPOSED to be working in a team....)

Thanks for another helpful video Aona! In the future, could you consider making a video on how to develop better communication skills? The way you speak and present is very eloquent and I'd love to be able to articulate my ideas better. If you recommend any resources, I'd love to know.

I love this video! I can't agree with you more for the persona part. Coming from a UX BootCamp grad perspective, I feel like we were taught the only way to introduce your target audience/user in a case study is through a persona. There is this weird consensus that persona is a must-have deliverable for a project, without a persona, you don't know who you are designing for. And this is very wrong. Instead of saying I've done research on the target users, what should we call it besides 'persona'?
@AonaTalks
@AonaTalks 2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the characteristics of your user group, I would call it something more trivial - e.g. "core user groups"; "high value users"; "power users"? There's not a one-size-fits-all answer to this, it's all about how you explain why you want to focus on THAT group of users first.
