This 3D medical animation show the cause, and potential locations of aortic aneurysms and the formation of an aortic dissection. The aorta is the largest artery in your body. Your aorta is divided into two main sections: the thoracic aorta and the abdominal aorta. The thoracic aorta has four parts: the aortic root, ascending aorta, aortic arch, and descending aorta.
Over time, degenerative disease may cause the media layer to break down, weakening the wall of your aorta. Blood pumping against the weakened area may cause it to bulge outward like a balloon, forming an Aortic Aneurysm. Further damage to the intimate can allow blood to move through the intimate separating it from the media, forming a flap called the septum between the true aortic channel and the false channel.
From there the blood may break through the outer layer of the aortic wall, causing a life threatening condition or it may re-enter the aorta through another tear in the intima.

I had an aortic aneurysm at 35. Both my ascending and descending aorta "shredded" (as my Cardiologist put's it) I was getting ready for work and then collapsed on the floor with intense chest pain, couldn't feel my left leg, went blind in both eyes, felt like I was in a 10,000 degree oven and could hardly breathe. Even with my family history and an EKG that presented normal at the hospital, they ruled out cardiac because of my age, and that I am a female, and had a neurologist look at me. Even though I was clinging to my chest saying it was my heart, no one listened. I bled out for 12 hours before they figured out what was wrong. I woke up 5 days later in the hospital after emergency open heart surgery and a stroke. 9 months later to the day I had another open heart surgery but this one was planned and went a lot smoother. It's not just a "mans disease." In fact, heart disease kills 1 in 3.

Had a Aortic Dissection 1/18/2007. I will never forget that ripping sensation. I thought somebody literally stabbed me in my back. As I turned around. It put me on the ground. I was only 3 miles away from Fairfax Hospital in Virginia. The cardio-thoracic surgeon cam to see me after the surgery. He looked half dead himself. I asked him " what's wrong?. He said You are the luckiest kid ever, the only reason You survived was being so close to the hospital and I was in phenomenal shape. Surgeon'e name is Dr. Alan Spier. He's amazing

@@sparkjournal yes, looking back. I had extreme unexplained fatigue. I had this dull ache in my chest and back. I thought I was out of shape and need to exercise more. Exercising made it worse. I went running the morning it happened and I got tired after about 5 minutes. Which was not like me. I always had excellent cardio. That should have been my big clue, but I was just kid. The main symptoms were the fatigue and ache in my chest and back. A 26 year old Judo player having heart issues was inconceivable to pretty much everyone including me. During the event it was just like the video. That tearing sensation is hard to explain.

I’m 47 had an ascending aortic aneurysm that was only discovered because of a type A dissection that went all the way to my abdomen. I’m in good shape and eat well but I had a history of smoking from age 13-35. My lungs are in great shape, no doctor can tell I ever smoked. While I was smoking I would have seasonal asthma and my wife would often say I would wake up gasping for air, so I may have had undiagnosed sleep apnea for a number of years. The aneurysm and dissection do not appear to be hereditary so I can only guess as to why this happened. My symptoms were a sudden tearing feeling in my chest, feeling faint and loosing my legs, when the EMT got to me I had no detectable pulse and my BP was 80/40. My trip to the OR was a very long and complicated one due to where I was when this happened and the weather at the time, the odds were not in my favor but I made it. I still have some recovery to go but it’s going well. I’m on a 30 lb lifetime lifting limit which is going to be a challenge for me but I’m really grateful to be alive right now. God is good!

Doctor said he got Aortic Aneurysm, his ascending aorta was ruptured and needed immediate surgery before the aorta explodes and prior to that he also undergone CABG last 12/2/2019. Can't imagine 2 major surgeries within a month. Thank God, he is now slowly recovering. If you feel something unusual in your thorax, please go see a doctor ASAP.

I had a aortic aneurysm thoracic type b dissection 2 weeks ago. I don’t wish the initial pain on anyone. I don’t know what this illness means for my future. I wonder how much of my life span is gone now. At first, I felt a severe pain between my shoulder blades. I had been asleep. I took a couple minutes to decide to call 911. For a minute, it felt like my spine was made of wood and someone was using a large can opener to unwind the whole thing. Paramedics showed up in 8 min. I threw up a little, twice while i waited. I couldn’t feel my left leg for a couple days. I overheard that i presented at the er with bp of 250/150 and brachycardic pulse 39. (I might be off by a few mm Hg) I spent a week on the vascular ward of a medical center and now am at a medical rehab center. The critical care attention was god-tier level care.

This is teaching me that it's important to be aware of symtoms and when something doesn't feel right, especially if you don't fit the description of the typical at-risk person for these types of cardiovascular issues, or for any health issue for that matter. My mom passed away a few months ago from an aortic dissection. She did not fit the description of an at-risk person. Healthy heart, full of energy until the end and low blood pressure. Overall a healthy person. The only thing I think that may have triggered it is possibly genetics, intense coughing that happened a month before (cold) and age (71). Take care of yourself and don't ignore the symptoms.

not saying your lying but very hard to believe as a future medical student that studies like im in med school. if your aorta completely broke apart from your heart you would be dead in matter of minutes. your aorta gives hold 2 primary aortic sinuses the left posterior aortic sinus and anterior aortic sinus both giving rise to your hearts blood supply to even function so your aorta breaking off means your heart cant pump blood cause your coronary arteries are detached.meaning u lose breathing and receiving oxygenated blood to your body plus your hearts natural pacemaker called sa node (sinotrail node) cant fire electrical impulses and that initiates all heart beats

My father had an aneurysm that the doctor said that he is only the second patient he has seen alive with one of that size. Generally they burst at the size it was and you cant save someone then. He had been complaining of chest pain for 12months the drs thought it was angina pain. After the by pass he was released from hospital with a blood clot in his lung. So if any of you reading this have shortness of breath and cant walk more than ten steps without feeling dizzy it good idea to get checked for clots of the lungs. 6mnths in and he says he has like a feather fealing when breathing. Im guessing a murmur? So now we are trying to get this diagnosed.

We can’t know. Some people have no pain with a dissection. I had pain, but not enough to make anyone sad.

The heart is my favourite organ. I love biology and every time I watch something related to the human body, my heart starts to beat harder but I feel amazing :3. Well...I don't know what is my body doing or my white blood cells do but...I wasn't cold since I was 5, the chickenpox lasted 2 days and everyone from my classroom is sick...except me. Is there something wrong or I just have a strong immunitary system?

I have passed unexpectedly at the age of 65 in 2017 with an aortic dissection type B. I had no pain, so doctors desided no operation. Theirs solution was good for me, operation succes was estimated at 50 percent. I feel good actualy, only blood pressure must be controled permanently.

Hi Alex i never had an aneurysm ..mine was a type A..so came from nowhere..by the time i reached the operating theatre i was given 5% chance of surviving and coming through surgery.. im guessing they keep an eye on you and measure etc .. remember planned surgery always goes better than emergency surgery... i think its something like only 1 person in every 100 thousand survives a type a rupture

Bernadette Harakati idk if you will ever read this since it’s been so long but would mean allot if you did my grandmother has a type A dissection currently it’s ballooned out we took her in she was monitored for 3 days and it hasn’t grown or shrunk in those 3 days so they sent her home I was upset they sent her home but they told her it’s in a “difficult spot” and they have a meeting with anouther hospital in 3 more days after release I’m just wondering did you face any similar problems and what kinda surgery did you get and how has your life after been

why don't the aortic layer which got ruptured get healed up? Just like new skin cells takes place of the old dead skin cells which were damaged on the surface of the skin during an accident?

Hydrodynamic forces and the extreme pressure differences prevent that from happening as efficiently as in other parts of the body

If you have the type of dissection where the blood clot forms like at 3:20 is it problem solved or are you still in a life threatening state?
@Unconfirmedstatus
@Unconfirmedstatus 2 жыл бұрын
Life-threatening. Sometimes, the clot got bigger or it might break, traveling to other organs and finally lodges, causing blood to get blocked. You know what happened? The cell connecting the aorta (heart) received no oxygen and dies due to either an embolism or clots.

I’ve also had a stress test,ekg and ct scan done. Everything has came back ok. Would they have found anything wrong with the CT scan?

This 26 of July my mother also died. Doctor tell us that operation will held in 2020 and not needsudden operation. Because operation is to risky and stant is not possible so we have to do open surgery. After performing operation she was ok but after 4 days of operation she got infected on blood and urine. After 2 days heart arrest but she survive at that time but unfortunate she goes in coma and than she fight more than 63 days in icu in vagitative state and than death win over life...
