DESCRIPTION
The log-Drum is called Süngkong by the Chungle which literally Süng means 'log' and kong means 'Crow', thus it is understood that sound created by the drum, which is compared to the crowing of the cock. It is one of the most important handiworks of the Aos. It is made from a huge log of approximately 30 to 40 ft. long and 14 to 16 ft. in girth, laboriously hollowed out in the form of a long slit running down the length of the body of the drum.
The main purpose of keeping the Süngkong at the village was to give emergency information by beating it to make reverberating sound to the villagers when there was danger in the village such fire broke out or entering enemies to village etc. It was also beaten during solar eclipse as it was believed that the sun is being devoured by the tiger. It was beaten during the death of rich man and a warrior(Nokenketer). Besides all, it is beaten during the time of important festivals such Moatsu and Tsungremmong inorder to make the festival more lively.
