Theyyam or Teyyam, Theyam, Theyyattam- is a popular ritual form of worship in Kerala, India, predominantly in the Kolathunadu area (consisting of present-day Kasargod, Kannur Districts, Mananthavady Taluk of Wayanad and Vadakara and Koyilandy Taluks of Kozhikode of Kerala) and also in South Canara and Kodagu of Karnataka as a living cult with several thousand-year-old traditions, rituals, and customs.
The performers of Theyyam belong to the lower caste community in ancient caste structure formed by Namboothiri brahmins in Kerala and have an important position in Theyyam. The people of these districts consider Theyyam itself as a channel to a God and they thus seek blessings from Theyyam. A similar custom is followed in the Mangalore region of neighboring Karnataka known as Bhuta Kola.
Theyyam is performed mainly by males, except the Devakoothu theyyam. The Devakoothu is the only Theyyam ritual performed by women. It is performed only on the Thekkumbad Kulom temple.

ഇത് ഷൂട്ട് ചെയ്തത് കാഞ്ഞങ്ങാട് പരപ്പ (കാസർഗോഡ്) എന്ന സ്ഥലത്തു നിന്ന് ആണ്. ആദിവാസി ഊരുകകളിലെ തറവാടുകളിൽ കെട്ടിയാടുന്ന തെയ്യങ്ങൾ ആണ് ഇത്. ലിപി ഇല്ലാത്ത ഭാഷ ആണിത്..

Please learn the culture and surroundings before you shoot something , don’t do it for the sake of getting some views!. This is mostly from northern Kasaragod , part of historic Tulunadu. North of Kasaragod town Hindus mostly speak Tulu so as their gods. Tulu is not a slang, it’s an independent Dravidian language.Tulu is one of the oldest Dravidian languages and has rich history.Its not a tribal language, it is spoken by all population from Northern Kasaragod and Mangalore district. Malayalam spoken in Kasaragod had heavy influence from Tulu and Kannada and most of the words in Kasaragod Hindu Malayalam are from Tulu and Kannada, that is why it is difficult for southerners to understand Kasaragod Malayalam. There is also Kasaragod Muslim Malayalam which is also influenced by Arabic along with other languages mentioned above.
