Former student here (AP World, and Government; Aquinas Class of 2010) to leave my deepest, appreciative kudos for being my teacher so many years ago. You are still an incredible educator skilled in academic facilitation and teaching in an easily understood, no nonsense way. Never change!!

Hey Jennett...one of the best and brightest to graduate from Aquinas. I can't believe you graduated 10 years ago...seems like I had you as a senior just yesterday. Hope everything and well and thanks so much for the kind words. Teaching is usually a thankless profession so a comment like yours means the world to me.

Thanks for the video again. Theses DBQ videos really help with understanding how to utilize the documents. If possible, could you also consider making a video where you write a DBQ from scratch? I think this will help a lot of us with structuring considering many of your other videos cover the bases on the rubric and utilizing the documents.

Thank you so so much!! I’ve been having a tough time trying teaching myself how to analyze documents. Question: how can we can we flow the analysis of the doc with how it connects to are thesis? Seems like so much to do in 45 min.
@jasonrupertus33604 жыл бұрын
Sophia, Sorry for the delay in responding to this. I believe that 2-3 sentences maximum per document is all you have time for. I encourage my students to never just summarize the document because there is no need for it. Just explain how the document connects to the topic sentences/thesis. Then HIPP the document in another sentence. Don't worry about making it flow. Outside of the complexity point (which no one ever gets) there is no point for having your essay flow. No grammar/style points. It is a lot to do in 45 minutes. Way more than I could have done as a sophomore in high school.

Does the HIPP analysis need to support the thesis? Or is it just need to relate to the argument? I don't understand what it means when my teacher said "tie it back to the argument"

The HIPP needs to connect to what is written in the document but it doesn't need to connect specifically to the argument.

So do we HIPP when we’re describing the contents of the document or can we HIPP in a separate sentence?
@davidnease9684 жыл бұрын
Kevin, don’t describe the documents, say how it supports your thesis. You HIPP in a paragraph that you’re using documents. You could be saying how a British official Is supporting your statement but keep in mind he is Pro British and will speak highly of his nation/organization.
@jasonrupertus33604 жыл бұрын
SGT Pancakeface (can't believe I just typed that) is totally right. 1-2 sentences showing how the document supports your thesis/topic sentence and then another sentence for the HIPP. You could combine it into one sentence but at this point in the game I would separate it.
