Apartment Hunting in Hanoi, Vietnam 2017 | LIFE IN VIETNAM

I visited 6 different apartments in Hanoi, Vietnam. Did I find what I was looking for? Watch the video to find out!
So within the first 3 days of moving to Hanoi, I was already out and about doing apartment hunting. The main source of listings that foreigners use is from the Facebook group "Hanoi Massive Housing." It is completely full of a variety of accommodations and all the realtors/agents that post there are extremely responsive and all spoke English decently.
I was looking to be in the Ba Dinh district of Hanoi, mainly cause it's a central location, and it's most authentic in terms of not being flooded with foreigners/expats. The district known for that is Tay Ho, which is around West Lake.
I saw some bad places and some decent places. But which one did I go for? I went with Apartment 6, which is technically in Tay Ho district, but it's on the south side of the lake and borders Ba Dinh district. It feels more like Ba Dinh than Tay Ho for sure, I see almost no foreigners at all around this neighborhood.
I hope you enjoyed this little video. It was fun going out to see what apartments would be like in Hanoi and filming it for you all.
Stay tuned for an actual full tour video of my new apartment! Thanks for your support and love, please Subscribe, Like, Share and leave many comments and questions! ❤

I'm so sorry you had to go through that 😭. I was cringing throughout the entire video. Those rats, the bugs, the dirt. Your studio looks amazing though! And I think it really suits you! Can't wait to see a detailed tour! PS I also watched Pho Your Eyes Only vlog yesterday, and watched the collab. Definitely was crying from happiness 😭! Thanks for fulfilling this girl's request, I can't wait to watch your footage as well from the other side of the camera

hehehe glad you were cringing along. ^^ The only really dirty places were Apt 1 and Apt 5. The others weren't as bad as I painted them to be as. But I mean, still, Apt 6 was so much cleaner and tidier than the others. Awww you cried at the collab with Bryan? lol That's great, don't worry, we will collab more in the future on eating videos!

Thanks man, I saw several other vlogs out there for solo people like me, getting a room in the $170 - $250 range. Those videos didn't really focus on the fact that shared spaces can also be gross spaces, especially if the roommates are sloppy as f*ck. $350 for a studio was the best option for me, especially cause I like a clean kitchen, and hanging out naked however I please. lol TMI? hahaha It's hot bro, need to keep the junk cooled off at all times!

haha I mean we live in very close contact with lots of rats, mice, lizards, because we basically live outside. And yeah I wouldn't call our village a slum but I guess some would! There's no trash pick up so everyone burns trash in piles or just throws everything in the river behind our house.

I feel like it is extremely hard trying to find a quiet place in Vietnam, esp Hanoi and Sai Gon. My cousin used to stay at a shared room in Hanoi and it was so disgusting, it was reeked of sewage smell and the people live next door weren't clean and very messy. Their shared bathroom was so gross. Luckily he moved to a different place now. I'm glad you were able to find at least one decent place with an affordable price. Hanoi isn't as cheap as it used to be, real estate prices jump like crazy.
@CoryMay81

Oh really? I heard Saigon is just crazy.... way more traffic and people than Hanoi. I like Hanoi's old rustic charm. Yeah, I heard people were able to live here for just $100 for a whole apartment to themselves, but not anymore. Makes sense, the times are changing. Sorry you got stuck in that sewage-rank place before. That must have driven you crazy! Thanks for commenting! ^^

Thanks Cory. You showed the reality that other vloggers don't. Lots to avoid. It was kind of depressing because I think I'm going to have to live in Hanoi for a while. I am glad they are modernizing their infrastructure. In another 10 years Vietnam will be first world. Not Singapore but in it's own way very good. Glad you found an acceptable place. Hanoi is more expensive than I thought it would be. It is the capitol though. I like the way you get to the point without all the uh's and hemming and hawing.
@CoryMay81
@CoryMay81 5 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! Yeah, I try to show the reality of living here, which is why I do my walking tour videos. There's no way to hide the real visuals and sounds. The only thing I can't add to my content is smell! It doesn't smell bad, but when I walk by restaurants or street food stalls, omg the smells are so nice. Yeah, Vietnam is the fastest growing economy in Asia. I feel like Vietnam now is what South Korea was in the 1980's, just coming up out of 3rd world status. I've heard Hanoi was cheaper in the past, but now with globalization and modernization, prices are going up and up. Construction is never-ending here. Thanks for watching! You might want to avoid some of my other videos, because I do plenty of uh's and hemming and hawing. lol Filler sounds are fine in normal speech, but I feel I do it excessively sometimes.

The workers are hard working, they are out there all day and night in shifts. They take breaks during the hottest hours of the day. It's a small crew, I've noticed. But they already finished cementing and filling in dirt on the area right behind my house. Now they've moved on to the next section which is behind my neighbor's house. The noise is so minimal. Really looking forward to what the road will be like once it's all done. Hahaha and Yes, Bryan and I were quick to meet up and collab. He's super chill and nice, and Summer is one of the most well behaved kids I've ever seen. lol Oh, Charly and Annie met up with me last week and I filmed just a little bit of it. Couldn't do much because we spent most of it riding around on motorbikes at night time. I will try and upload that footage soon. ^^

@CoryMay81 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Maria! Hmm... I'd have to maybe pretend to be looking for a higher range target, like in the $800 - $1500 range and see what they show me. I think in that range, you'd get a really nice 2 or 3 bedroom in a modern highrise apartment, easily. I know other vloggers here have done their hunting in a higher budget range, cause it was a couple or a couple with a kid, so they needed more space and amenities. If you can't find what you're looking for, I'll try and do it someday and pretend to be house shopping as a rich person. lol

So Cory, how does getting a place work? First month,last month,security deposit? Can you sign the lease with a tourist visa?
@CoryMay81
@CoryMay81 5 жыл бұрын
You can sign any lease with a tourist visa, no problem. The majority of foreigners I've met that live here are on tourist visas. As for rent deposit and stuff like that, it just depends on the landlord or real estate company, so I can't really give a clear answer on that. For example, my place is no deposit, and just pay monthly rent + utilities. Other places require 3 months rent at once, and utilities might be included. It just depends....

I found an agent to take me to these places through the Facebook group "Hanoi Massive Housing" I told them my budget and what I was hoping for, and they arranged the viewing of these different places. You can also check out Hanoiapartment.com for some decent listings. ^^

Sorry, villas and tube homes don't have names the way tall highrise apartment buildings do.

You can't let the reports of individual locations turn you off. There are places of low sanitation of all sorts everywhere. There are many people who live here and manage to avoid it all.

Sterility in that price range is not possible; even 10X of that price, you will not be immuned from insects and rodents, noise and fume.

I just like a clean environment... no dust, no hairballs, clean kitchen, clean bathroom, etc. I think "maybe" I would have been able to find what I was looking for, but I just didn't have time to look at sooo many places. I had to choose something quick. For the $350 studio, it's great, I love it. It's very clean and I keep it that way. ^^ Also all the windows and natural lighting is GREAT! When it's cooler in the day, I open all the windows and air the place out and there's such a nice little breeze that rolls in. Perfect.

AirBNB is a service, which can use any kind of location from a hostel to a hotel to someone's apartment. Not sure what you're trying to say. ???

Not to mention the nasty hard beds in Vietnam....
@CoryMay81
@CoryMay81 6 жыл бұрын
Lots of Asian countries sleep on harder-style beds, it's supposed to be better for your back than a soft mattress. But softer beds aren't hard to find at all. My 1st apartment came with a queen-sized Western-style mattress. My new apartment also has a queen-sized, Western-style mattress that's very comfy.
