Weapons in Apex Legends aren't so drastic each season that you can't find value from another video in the past - usually. This season 21 and Season 20 however have differed from past seasons in that really two weapons have dominated and other weapons have been strong, but unable to honestly beat them in any straight up fight. It means that for most of your time in apex legends you can use any weapon and get wins and improve your k/d - but if you run up against the top 2, you'll lose. Every.Time. That's just the way it's been and so let's break down this weapon meta today with the focus on explaining why the power dynamic has shifted in such a way to make these weapons so dominant, while also exploring the value that each of the other weapons bring in this roster.

Seeing the Havoc dominate the meta is bittersweet for me. It's been my favorite weapon ever since it came out, and I've been singing its praises for years. And now, without any changes for years, it's on top. It makes me happy to see, but also sad because I know it'll be nerfed into oblivion soon. I want other stuff to be buffed, instead of continuing the endless nerf cycle.

Yup, I used it for multiple seasons and with no nerfs people just consistently placed it C-B maybe A tier, but it's always been a beast of a weapon. Highest DPS on the ground with insanely big mags, and it's the closest you get to a care package weapon you can consistently pick up. If Havoc gets nerfed, Prowler might be the next weapon closest to that.

idk about the R-99 take. I would argue its the most INCONSISTENT weapon in game with its recoil pattern and abysmal mag size. I pick up the RE before the R-9 and i hardly ever see it in deathboxes. Also charge rifle is absolutely F tier lol. no body uses it.

I agree the R-99 is more C tier. I might have missed it, but i don't remember him talking about the recoil nerf so now you have to be in someone's face for the r99 to do anything. The mag size and recoil nerf makes it C tier for me. As for charge Rifle, i don't think it's F tier. It's definitely harder to use, but it hits like truck when you know how to use it. I use it in rank to level up my shield and I swap it once my purple shield is about halfway or it's close to end game. I think C is a fair assessment for the charge rifle. It's really good if you know how to use it, but it's also a liability if you have to engage a team close range.

I’m ngl I don’t run it but when I have to use it the charge rifle is manageable and lowkey decent for keeping enemies at midrange(ESP early game) and I’m on controller

Charge rifle is good for farming damage, but after the first 8 bullets the R99 goes straight up

So picture a line of 5 people standing side by side and behind them are another line of a few more people. That first line of people represented the SMG’s & AR’s in Apex for years. Then someone told them to take 2 steps back and suddenly the Havoc who never moved is sitting in that front row. They didn’t do anything to buff the havoc, they just nerfed the shit out of everything else.

This is what happens when you nerf the SMG's into the ground. The R-99 Should NEVER have been nerfed so hard. Instead we get the Havoc Meta.

@@richardmiklos if you need top level proof, they are both used in comp. Even in endgames. They aren’t the meta for top level, but they are close enough to be S tier for almost all scenarios.

I think hammer point snake more sense for the RE because it has one of the quickest draw times for a weapon so you would want to use it to finish a kill in my opinion. Disruptors are funner though😭

It's a good idea to main two different legends or I need to focus on only one? (I main Wattson and Valkyrie)

Get really good with one and have another you’re good with if someone takes your main. If you play ranked maybe find a legend in at least three categories ex. Controller support skirmisher so you can be flexible for your team unless you have a made up team already. I’ve been practicing this lately and it’s helping a lot. Brings a lot more life to the game cause you get to keep learning and you get better understanding on what they can do if you’re fighting against them. Idk how long you’ve been playing though. If you’re just starting main one or two

r9 can go down honestly. I think its made worse by the current gun meta. the havoc players can hip fire and spam crouch/ ad strafe like a demon making it even harder to one clip while simultaneously one clipping you. weapon has been relegated to the best of the best mechanically and even then just run havoc and have the opportunity to knock an entire squad with one mag. the weapon disparity is not okay this season lol.

R99 is D tier. While the r99 may have a faster ttk than the p2020, it is only by a few miliseconds (like 0.2 seconds faster, I think) and a NO mag p2020 has a HIGHER damage per mag than a GOLD mag r99. I'd honestly rather have a p2020 over a r99 any day of the week.

I actually think you underrated the charge rifle a bit here. I've been running it alot this season if i cant find the sentinel, and the thing hits like a truck. I hit a catalyst for 103 to the body the other day because i was far enough away, and the headshots are super deadly. I'd say its more of a low A to high B tier weapon IMO

r99 still has 198 dps or something really close, which is higher than the flatline, and only a couple off the havoc, just sucks that u need to basically hit every shot to make it count, makes it a really challenging weapon to use if u want to improve your aim tho! and if u have good aim then its still viable. The volt's better coz even though its got lower dps, the slow fire rate and higher bullet damage means you can afford to miss more and not be screwed over x I rekn the rampage is much better for longer ranges, but it sucks up close coz of its abysmal 130 dps, even with the thermite its 169 which is lower than r301, it does however have more rounds in it so if you cant hit your shots its basically like using a better spitfire

R301 3x and Volt 1x , I’ve found to be the most reliable all around loadout for my mains (loba and vantage). Maybe I’m biased cuz I’ve put hundreds of hours in perfecting the use of those guns. But that loadout is a beast. I over whelmingly agree with this tier list. Subbed!

We need more guns to rival the Havoc in terms of close range prowess. Light Mags and Light Weapons need a buff. It doesn't make sense that you can carry the same amount of "light" and "heavy" bullets in one inventory slot. It also doesn't make sense that Light Weapons have the same or LESS bullets per mag than HEAVY weapons, yet they do far less damage per bullet. In real life the bigger/heavier the bullet the less you can carry in a clip. Same should apply for Apex.

I think for me L-star is as good as Volt. The small superiory Volt can have close range is made up hugely by the range, “mag capacity” and all in advantage that the L-star has. It depends a lot on play style. But for anyone playing aggresive, even bloodhound. L-star is very good. A-mid to A minus tier for me. 100%

@@Benslife96 You just need to know how to use it. You can tap the shooting button to keep the charge time up, so it's faster to shoot. It takes some practice, but you can easily reduce the charge time by half or more.

What’s the point of having two tiers that aren’t used? Great list, but the E and F tier should have been utilized to display more nuanced weapon effectiveness between the guns. Tier lists should be a spectrum between the worst and the best- the lowest tier should represent the gun in last place.

It's a bit more difficult in Apex where they value gun parity a variety of legends being viable in multiple scenarios. If you want a best vs worst sliding scale, you'd have to make it up - not tell things accurately. An F doesn't really make any difference when you know a p2020 is just for early game. It would be inaccurate to say it's unusable...and so shouldn't be touched (which is what I think F implies visually). Apex has a very balanced weapon meta with a lot of variety right now, and that is a good thing! Most guns are viable! It just however has two weapons at the top that stand out so much from the pack that they are the only two weapons to look for. These tier lists should reflect game experience and not just be a judgement fest on weapons. A CAR or an L-Star can fry in the right circumstances, but they usually get lower rankings on lists if they don't excel in MOST circumstances. If I pick up a HAVOC and HEMLOK and can win a fight in any scenario - close, medium or long - then that's S tier. C tier in that case would just be less options, less scenarios, and less overall value in most cases of using the weapon. It doesn't mean a CAR is simply much better than an Lstar, it just means it's more widely usable. If I were to spread these out a bit more I think it wouldn't hurt, so it's a good suggestion for the future. I did this to exemplify where these weapons are from a usability perspective in tiers vs ranking them against each other. I've done ranking videos on weapons before and I've steered away from doing them recently. Will consider if it needs to make a comeback in some way!

I think one of your strengths is your ability to articulate the nuances (in both gameplay commentary and in discussing strengths and weaknesses of various guns/Legends)- so spreading things out a bit more across tiers is something you’d likely be more successful in than most Apex content creators. TL;DR: S: Havoc, Hemlock, Devotion, Kraber, Eva-8, Bocek A: Volt, Prowler, Wingman, Alternator, Triple Take, Nemesis, Sentinel, Peacekeeper, Flatline, G7-Scout, 30-30 Repeater B: Spitfire, RE-45, R-99, R-301, Rampage, Mastiff, Longbow, L-Star, Car C: Mozambique, Charge Rifle D: P 20-20 Some hot takes. Havoc definitely sees changes next patch.
