@@smallsmokecj9405 yeah, a few times I've had lucid dreams which have felt like a considerable length of time, then I've woken, looked at my clock and realised it was only 10 or 15 minutes later than the previous time I'd looked, I'd just drifted off for a few minutes. That sort of thing's more likely if I've interrupted my normal sleep cycle by going down to do something for an hour or two in the "small hours" then gone back to bed. I did that this morning actually as I'd woken up and couldn't get back to sleep so went downstairs to my laptop for an hour or two. The dream ended with lucidity - though in this instance it wasn't particularly intense and didn't last long.

There was a really long text interview that came out around the same time as Syro and the huge soundcloud dump, in which he and the interviewer seem to already know each other. There is some talk of ridiculous one-of-a-kind music tech that could conceivably exist but sounds made up, as well as claims to some mad science level but technically possible feats of audio/electrical engineering in his teens. He also claims to be a 9/11-was-an-inside-job guy in the same interview, which was removed shortly after being posted. It felt slightly unhinged to me at the time, and I remember thinking that I would want the interview taken down if it were mine. I think he might just actually be a really weird guy who would have a difficult time functioning in society if he hadn't become successful doing music, but that also might just be the character he's trying to portray. I'm glad he did, either way.

the 9 year old programming thing might be a lie, but its not that far off what kids were doing at the time in england, and some parts of europe. with all the home computers out around that that; like the commodor, amiga, atari, and in james' case the sinclair spectrum. you didnt have to be some insane wiz kid, it was just the norm to make games and music on those old home computers.

The twin one is actually mostly true - it wasn't his twin but he had a stillborn older brother who was also given the name Richard David James. The older Richard's grave is featured on the cover of the Girl/Boy EP. It's at a graveyard in Thunder Bay, Canada, around where the James family had moved for work at the time of the child's death.

I understand the idea of venerating his music, but the man? I understand that less. There are two kinds of people who like Aphex Twin, the fans and the cultists. The fans are the ones who say SAW is his best album, by far. The cultists are the zealots who feel like it is their solemn duty to defend him as the messiah of electronic music, I met plenty of them locally at D4N 2016 here in Houston. I'd already met a few IRL, but holy shit, it was like a hajj for weirdos coming to witness the sacrament of an Aphex Twin live set, though I did feel happy for one French cultist (who Richard didn't even know was in the audience) when RDJ played one of his songs. Dude is just a compulsive liar, doesn't change the fact that he's written some banger melodies. I don't even find him particularly 'genius' as a sound designer, his first and best album was composed almost entirely with presets.

Lucid dreaming is really very powerful, to the extent that people who aren't able to do it wouldn't believe what is really possible with it, so don't be so keen to write it off. I am able to lucid dream and you can pretty much do what you like to the world around you, in an almost psychic/telekinetic way. You can summon anything you can imagine into existence. It really is like when Neo realises he can control reality in the Matrix. They sneak up on you though, it isn't really possible to decide *when* a dream becomes lucid, it just sorts of happens. (tip: get into the habit of staring at your hands during your waking life and saying to yourself "I know I am dreaming, this is a dream, and I am in control of everything" - if it becomes enough of a habit you'll eventually start doing it in your dreams. The real challenge then is not immediately waking up when you realise you're in a lucid dream). As an on/off insomniac I also find I am more likely to drop into a lucid dream when I am sleep deprived/extremely tired when I go to sleep, which sort of goes hand in hand with sleeping three hours a night, which is also isn't inconceivable. Sometimes that is all I get, for weeks on end. Bruce Lee has gone on record saying he would train martial arts whilst lucid dreaming, and he was able to move much more quickly than he could whilst he was awake

@@sclitchmusic Before 1996, he had explained in interviews that the origin of the "Twin'" in "Aphex Twin" was because of his short lived collaboration with Tom Middleton (Born the same day as RDJ, hence making him his "Twin") in the early 90's. Prior to the release of Girl/Boy EP, there was no mention of his supposed deceased brother.
