Tell them the truth. They will be mad at first especially the desi parents. But eventually they want better for you, at most they will scold you or beat you. My little brother lost the new phone due to his own carelessness (which he bought by forcing them to do so) but he told them. Eventually they won't remember that you made that mistake.
