METAK188 And that's where you'd be wrong about metal. Metal came from Jazz and Blues. Mixed in with rock. It's like saying "Symphonic Metal" is not metal. it's not the instruments but the attitude. Metallica's S&M Concert is still metal, despite having an orchestra. and none of this "Metallica's not metal" bullshit. They are. Metal is a broad term, like saying "People". I think this satisfies more than just the metal head side of me. It has a air of sophistication that metal these days misses. instead of chugging on a single note for a whole song, this is beautifully composed but has aggression. They are metal whether you opinionise that are not, or not. But they are just more than metal, which is where it puts people off.

Kevin Pierre That's just my opinion. Because cello isn't typical instrument in metal industry. Without other instruments (drums, guitars, keyboards etc.) i can hear just some guys playing cello a little bit harsh. If there would be other instruments (which they have in some songs) it would be a completely different story. Can you tell what is metal in your opinion?

+Gisela Hernandez Hablando de Apocalyptica que no conocia ni de nombre, me ha sorprendido el concepto. Rock alternativo, consonancias metallicas que me han gustado porque quedan soportables, y la permanente clasica, todo esto con cuatro violoncelas y un monstruo dandole cana a sus tambores. No esta mal, y mas lo escucha, mas le sacas sabores. Pero me ha un poco aburrido el tono linear un poco monotono, y bastante esta presencia clasica, que para este estilo hay muchisimos talentos bien mejores. Yo pienso que tienen que escoger un estilo dandole los sabores del otro , no mezclar a tope, pero subliminar. Solo queria dar mi opinion. Y perdoname las faltas de castellano, naci en Cordoba, pero a los dos anos ya estaba en Francia, y mi idioma nativo no es perfecto. Hasta otro ratito si la casualidad se presenta. O tambien puedes ir a ver mi muro. No es muy interesante, pero me gusta leer los comentarios y a veces contestar.

***** Wacken is an annual 'heavy metal' festival held in Germany. So you'll see a lot of the usual metal bands in the line up. Avanti Chamber Orchestra is a Finnish ensemble in their own right. I really like their 'backing' of Apocalyptica here. I also found it mildly amusing that on the Avanti Chamber Orchestra website they state "Apocalyptica cello rockers are going on tour with Avanti! Orchestra" - as opposed to the other way around. In my mind the orchestra should have top billing.

erhudreamer Orchestras play like this all over the world. What they didn't have was certainly the right sound crew. Mixing an orchestra live is a skill very few people have. People have said the sound was bad all around last year, so I'll just assume people who can't set up the sound for a band won't be able to set it up for an orchestra.

I agree, Julia Lianne, my point is the venue in which one plays something that the crowd is not expecting. I love these guys. But I would prefer a sit down orchestral presentation of this moment.
