Catholicism isn't faith.....it's a conglomeration of lies being worshipped as truth which is idolatry

@@dieselcowboy777 as usual you are parroting the huge ignorant lies against Catholicism. You do not even know 1% of what it is and even that 1% has been corrupted by the ignorants. Therefore, please do not comment on anything you do not know. Catholicism is adhering to the Catholic Church, very simple . What is the Catholic Church? It is the Institution which Christ set up in order to continue His Teachings while physically not present. What does the Church (which Christ Himself instituted) teach? It teaches you the Path to Salvation . This is in a nutshell. Obviously there are Saints and there are sinners. The sinners are the traitors to the Teachings and the Saints are those who follow in the steps of Christ. The teachings have never and will never change. Those who do not want to follow that Path, is their own choice. Ridiculing it and spreading rumours that are false is called, playing the game of the Evil One who hates God and hates His Teachings. Therefore , just stick to your own beliefs or unbeliefs and do not bother others with it. The Truth will ALWAYS be the Truth and whatever or whoever wants to distort that, does NOT change the Truth because Christ IS: The Truth, The Way and the Life.

Jesus said, "Ask and you shall receive," which is my own testimony. That is, raised by an atheist, I heard the gospel for the first time at age 17 through a Catholic movie about Jesus. Shortly thereafter, I walked onto the lawn of a church one night, looked up at the cross on the steeple, and prayed my first prayer, "Is there Jesus? I would like to meet Him!" When I met Christ, all heaven filled my soul and it felt like my heart was made out of gold. I have been great friends with Christ ever since. However, Catholics teach that baptism and communion are necessary for salvation - all with no assurance of salvation. That said, in 45 years, I have not had even one second of doubt that I know the Lord and am bound for heaven - not even for a second. The Apostle Paul wrote, "Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10.13)." Yet, Catholics teach, "Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord, is baptized, and partakes of communion might be saved." Which is the true gospel? Paul wrote that whoever preaches a different gospel should be accursed. Christ died on a Cross so that, just by asking, we can know God. Adding any other condition to being saved is to pollute the pure beauty of the gospel. Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

@@DenisOhAichir Hi Denis. It sounds like you have so much invested in your faith. However, would you be willing to repent of your faith if you found that it was not pleasing to the Lord? For example, you quoted from John, chapter 6. Jesus said that we must eat His flesh. Are you sure He meant that literally? For example, Jess also said that He is the Rock, the Lamb, and the Door. Jesus spoke in metaphors, so, even if you say that He is literally a piece of bread, I do not see how God could fault anyone for not taking His words as literal, but as "spirit and life" (John 6.63). In fact, the Jews left because Jesus spoke metaphorically. Conversely, if Christ had produced actual bread, that is what the Jews were looking for! He said to them, "You are of the flesh, but the words I speak are spirit and they are life." If Christ would have presented an actual loaf of bread, they could not have been happier. Yet, they left because they did not want to know Christ, they just wanted a free meal. You 'eat the flesh' of Christ when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, not by eating a piece of bread. Those who eat of communion bread will die. For example, Hitler partook of communion, but he died. If whoever eats of communion cannot die, then Hitler is in paradise. Paul wrote, "Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10.13)." If you say that communion is necessary for salvation, then you are preaching a different gospel and actually an enemy of God. As it is written, "Whoever preaches a different gospel should be accursed (Romans 10.13)." The beauty of the gospel is that Christ died on a Cross so that we can know Him - just by asking. I hope you will get to know the Lord! Do not seek miracles, but the Lord! Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

@@DenisOhAichir Hi. If eating the flesh of Christ meant actual bread, that is what the Jews were looking for. For example, the bread that Jesus broke during the first communion would have been perfect, exactly what they were looking for, yet having contempt on honoring Christ as Lord. Moreover, to claim that actual eating of bread is necessary for salvation is to contradict the words of Christ. For example, which gospel do you suggest I believe? Jesus said, "Ask and you shall receive" and Paul wrote, "Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved." So, do I gain salvation by asking, as Christ said, or do I need to partake of communion and be baptized for salvation, as Catholics teach? I hope that you will choose the truth of the gospel over the traditions of men. I hope that you will have a genuine friendship with God - just by asking! Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

Major factor for the schism between the Eastern and Western church is proximity. During that time communication between east and west was a little difficult. Not unlike today we have conmunication technology. And I believe St. Pope John Paul II has already bridged that gap when he met with the Patriach of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Reason why we can see them at the Vatican already well represented and having an office there.

All good ideas. The general timeline is Isaiah Old Testament prophesied the Messiah would be born of a virgin woman. Luke's gospel New Testament outlined the events, in such detail that Luke probably got them from interviewing Mary herself or John the disciple Jesus entrusted her care to during the crucifixion, and the longest surviving apostle. Mary, having conceived Jesus by the Holy Spirit as reported by Luke, is there again in the upper room when the Holy Spirit rushes in and lands on each apostle like flames on Pentecost, in Book of Acts, which is also thought by historians to have been written by St. Luke. St. John, Mary's closest friend since he takes her into his care, writes, while incarcerated believed to be after Mary's death, of his vision of a woman in Revelation that is crowned Queen of Heaven, whose son crushes the head of the dragon Satan with his heel. So, we believe God's good prevails, but there will be great suffering we and Satan bring upon ourselves first. And our prayer to Mary, who is in heaven, was the first Christian and has the ear of her son, Jesus the King, is that she pray for us and God allow her to impart her wisdom and grace upon us now so we don't commit (more) atrocities against each other. And God has allowed her to bring messages to us herself through Marian apparitions, which are not required to be believed for salvation, yet are good advice for us to follow from our loving Mother of humanity. Hope this helps, but definitely search out more at Catholic Answers if you want chapter and verse references.

*_Mary?_* I'm an atheist, but, well, seems obviously like Mary pushed Jesus out through her vagina... that's kind of how babies work, you know. Placenta, umbilical cord -- all that. Recommend you to read the Gospel of Luke. Hence: Mary, Mother of God. Kind of a no brainer, even for me. *_Saints???_* Saints are just people who've been canonized (posthumously) by the Roman Catholic Church. If you have eternal God and eternal souls (in the judeo-Christian tradition) it all makes a lot of sense in the context of the old and new testaments. Who'd Jesus talk to that one time in Scripture? Moses and Elijah. That should get you started understanding saints.

Try searching St. Thomas Aquinas and GK Chesterton for logically basis for the existence of God, such as something can come from nothing, and that the creator must be outside of creation the way God exists outside of time and space which are creations and its these truths that help understand the proper omnipotence and omnipresence of God, which then leads to an understanding of how God could do any of what is recorded in the Bible and other historical texts (yes, other historians record events that support Biblical scripture)
@TristanMorrow
@TristanMorrow 5 жыл бұрын
@@lalliguerriero9807 Thank you for that thoughtful comment, Lalli! As an atheist I have thought that Aquinas's _quinque viae_ and Chesterton's _Orthodoxy_ (as Pascal's _Pensees_ and others) do argument for "How" or "What" or "Who" is God... ...but not so much for the questions of "If" and "Is" -- which is where I'm at :-/ (if that matters?) Creeds: stating the nature of God as outside time and space ("When" and "Where" -- eternal and omnipresent) and omniscient and omnipotent and all-loving and all-good, etc -- is something that I'm grateful to the all the people of all different religions for doing: defining God as something/someone specific (rather than as Spinoza's more-or-less nebulous and undefinable "God"). It's not hard to *_dis_* prove specific claims to know specific things (especially when different religions all claim to have a special connection to that thing that they are claiming about) ie, to show that someone's wrong. If I may say so, the Roman Catholics do a very good job of countering the claims and arguments of various other religions and philosophies of God. The Roman Catholic Church is a great ongoing tradition -- one priest I was talking to cited as tradition going back to the Canaanite Melchizedek. However, it seems to me (from the outside), that "Apologetics" is naively arguing about nuances of a truly hypothetical construct ( _If God exists, then..._ ) ...and what I'm looking for is, has anyone checked if God exists? Does truth, or degrees of truth or veracity even matter? The mere historicity or spuriousness of biblical events doesn't do much to prove or disprove God (...even Paul the Apostle was already a (fervent!) believer in the Judeo-Christian God -- he was merely accepting Jesus.) But there's a methodology that's even in Scripture, with the prophet Daniel (Bel; the Dragon) and 1 Thessalonians being my favorite examples: test everything. Keep what is good, and stay away from everything that is evil. I care about truth and veracity. I'd love to be wrong (as an atheist) about God and God's existence.

@@TristanMorrow Hey Tristan, how is it going? I'm a brazilian catholic, former atheist (or agnostic?). Its so good to see nice people like you simply seeking the truth and being respectul, much of us, religious people, should be inspired by you, man... Well, you're right, most part of apologetics already assumes God's existence and tend to focus more on His attributes, His revelation, etc. To discuss God's existence, we have to enter another level of debate. This being a massive topic, it's really difficult for me to make any difference in your "journey" through a KZfaq comment, but here are some points. Part of God's attributes actually have to be discover by revelation, either collective (like Scripture and Tradition) or individual (personal experience). This happens because every bit of knowledge depends on some kind of revelation, because, in fact, empirical knowledge is a kind of revelation, since you could just embrace silopsism and believe that only your mind exists and all the rest is a illusion, or, at best, unsure and inconclusive. Of course, that doesn't mean that we can't or shouldn't push our reason ar far as possible to aprehend the transcendent. The general point of the belief in God is that every being must come from other being, and never from a non-being; everything that exists and come into existence, is caused by a pre-existing thing. Since a infinite regress would be absurd, the first cause must not have came into existence, but rather be existence itself. Since, something exists, the existence must be somethin in itself and transcendent, Using aristotelian principles of potency and actuality, we know that this first cause must be pure act, and thus didn't have to "develop", for it is Being itself. Every potency comes into ct by the force of another act (that was a potency at some point), thus all the potencies are inwith the first cause, for it is pure act. Every potency, Omnia potentia -> omnipotent. Everything that exists, subsists in the first cause (for it is Existence), which meas that it is omnipresent (attention: omnipresent doesn't mean that it has an infinite extension, but rather no extension, it just trancends space itself). I could continue, but I guess that you got my point. The pther attributes of God, concerning its "personality" or "personalness" must be discovered by Revelation, because logic only extends to the domain of the "possible" or "reasonable", but never to the domain of the factual and actual. (You couldn't prove that something existence by logic, but only use logic with premises acquired with empirical knowledge. God being transcendent and over nature, we only aprehend it by Revelation means). Thanks for your attention, man

@@johns1834 Hi. Please do not get me wrong; baptism and communion are important elements of the Christian faith. However, they are not necessary for salvation. As far as salvation being the narrow path, tell me about it! That is, since September, I have sharing the gospel with Catholics, yet not one of them have been honest: they will not acknowledge a simple, obvious contradiction. That is, Catholics teach that baptism and communion are necessary for salvation - yet with no assurance of salvation. Using the Romans 10.13 grammatical form, Catholics believe, Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord, is baptized, and partakes of communion might be saved." Is that not a different gospel? Paul said that whoever preaches a different gospel should be accursed. Yet, just by asking, a person can meet Christ, be filled with the Holy Spirit, born again and saved forever. Moreover, if a person has a genuine encounter with the Lord, they have many good works and will endure to the end. That said, if you have been mistaken about your faith, that, in actuality, you were opposed to the Lord, would you want to repent and get right with God? Yet, what will you do with Romans 10.13? In Martin Luther’s time, papal indulgences were publicly sold not only for the living but also for the dead. “As soon as the coin in the coffer rings, the soul from Purgatory springs” was a common saying. To ordinary folk, an indulgence became almost an insurance policy against punishment for any sin, and repentance fell by the wayside.

@@TristanMorrow At Matthew 16:17, 18, we find Jesus’ words to Peter: “I say to you, you are Peter [whose name means “A Piece of Rock”], and upon this rock I will build my church.” Was Jesus saying that his “church,” or congregation, would be built upon Peter, a man? Was Peter to be the head of all other followers of Jesus? How did the other apostles present at that conversation understand Jesus’ words? The Gospels reveal that later, on a number of occasions, they argued about who was the greatest among them. (Matthew 20:20-27; Mark 9:33-35; Luke 22:24-26) If Jesus had already given Peter primacy, or superiority, could there have been any question as to who was the greatest among the apostles? How did Peter himself understand Jesus’ words? Growing up an Israelite, Peter would have been familiar with various Hebrew prophecies speaking of a “stone” or a “cornerstone.” (Isaiah 8:13, 14; 28:16; Zechariah 3:9) When he quoted one of them in a letter to his fellow believers, Peter explained that the prophesied “cornerstone” was the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah. Peter used the Greek term pe’tra (the same word found in Jesus’ statement at Matthew 16:18) for Christ alone.-1 Peter 2:4-8. The apostle Paul was another faithful follower of Jesus. Did Paul believe that Jesus had given Peter primacy? Acknowledging Peter’s position in the early Christian congregation, Paul wrote that Peter was among those “reputed to be pillars.” For Paul, there was more than just one ‘pillar.’ (Galatians 2:9) Moreover, if Peter had been appointed by Jesus as the head of the congregation, how could he simply be reputed, that is to say, supposed or thought by his fellow believers, to be a pillar? When writing regarding certain inconsistencies in the way Peter treated people, Paul respectfully but frankly stated: “I opposed him to his face because he clearly was wrong.” (Galatians 2:11-14) Paul did not think that Christ had built his church, or congregation, upon Peter or any other imperfect man. On the contrary, he believed that the congregation was built on Jesus Christ as the foundation. For Paul, “the rock was the Christ.”-1 Corinthians 3:9-11; 10:4. So how are we to understand the words: “You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church”? To understand an excerpt correctly, we need to read its context. What were Jesus and Peter speaking about? Jesus had just asked his disciples: “Who do you say that I am?” Without hesitation, Peter answered: “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” With that, Jesus commended Peter and then added that he would build his “church,” or congregation, on an even more solid “rock,” the one in whom Peter had just expressed faith-Jesus himself.-Matthew 16:15-18. Consistent with this, many of the “Church Fathers” wrote that the rock of Matthew 16:18 is Christ. For example, Augustine in the fifth century wrote: “The Lord said: ‘On this rock-mass I will build my Church,’ because Peter had told him: ‘You are the Christ the Son of the living God.’ It is therefore on this rock-mass, that you confessed, that I will build my Church.” Augustine repeatedly stated that “the Rock (Petra) was Christ.” Augustine and others would be considered heretics if judged according to current Catholic doctrine. In fact, according to Swiss theologian Ulrich Luz, the consensus of opinion on this subject among Bible scholars today would have been condemned by the 1870 Vatican Council as heresy. The title “pope” was unknown to the apostle Peter. In fact, until the ninth century, many non-Roman bishops applied the title to themselves. Even so, the term was rarely applied as an official title until the late 11th century. Moreover, no early Christian thought that a primacy supposedly given to Peter had been transmitted to any successors. Hence, German scholar Martin Hengel concluded that there is “no demonstrable historical and theological way to arrive at what later became papal ‘primacy.’” Jesus unquestionably did build his church, his true congregation, upon himself. (Ephesians 2:20)

I was raised by an atheist, I heard the gospel for the first time at age 17 through a Catholic movie about Jesus.

42 minutes in, and the presenter uses "non-Catholic" to mean "Protestant". She also only refers to Protestant denominations in her timeline. Has she never heard of Orthodox Christianity or the Church of the East? Before we talk about salvation by faith alone, we need to clear up nestorianism, miaphysitism and the filioque controversy. She briefly mentions Eastern Orthodoxy toward the end, but does not mention Oriental Orthodoxy or the Church of the East.

"non-Catholic" is a nuanced topic I'm curious about... As an outsider, I had the impression that the post-mid-1000's "Eastern" Catholic Churches were considered part of the Catholic "Communion" by Rome, regardless, and that - among other things - the 2nd Vatican Council gauranteed the continuation of their rituals and beliefs?

The only difference is only in the use of statues. They hold on to the use of icons or pictures instead of statues or graven images. Though they now respect our use of graven images or statues. Everything else is similar. Though their vestments are more ellaborate and colorful than ours.

@@kenshiloh hi Ken I read your point and it is well taken bro. But I hope you do not solely base your faith on the saying of St. Paul my friend. I myself would rather base it on what Jesus himself said in Mathew 28:19, his final instructions to the 11 apostles, to teach us and BAPTIZE us as entry into faith. I could cite to you too in the Acts of the Apostles 2:37. The apostles always stressed baptism which was the entry point and NOT the mere believing. Action on our part is required sir. Moreover, you wrote, "I hope you do not solely base your faith on the saying of St. Paul." Why not? Can I not trust what Paul wrote? He said, "Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10.13)." Do you not see the pattern: ask or call upon the Lord and you shall receive the Holy Spirit, you shall be saved? @@kenshiloh the bible never said that calling the Name of the Lord alone is the way to salvation
@kenshiloh
@kenshiloh 2 жыл бұрын
@@alfonstabz9741 Hi. I think we are in agreement - at least partially. Let's put two pieces of a puzzle together: first, not everyone who professes Christ is saved, but only those who do His will. Moreover, those who are saved will endure to the end. Combine these Bible truths with Romans 10.13, "Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved." Therefore, by logic, whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall obey the Lord and will endure to the end. For example, there is no one in hell tonight who has genuinely called upon the Name of the Lord. Yet, how is that possible? Let's further combine more elements of salvation. For example, those in Christ are seated in the heavenlies, they are baptized in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit being the 'down payment' or assurance of their salvation. That is, just as you were born into your earthly family, so those who call upon the Lord are born into the family of God. It is written that, if a person is indeed filled with the Holy Spirit that, "The Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God (Romans 8.16)." Obviously, a child of God, loves God. The Bible says, "Love never fails." Hence, if 'love' fails, then it was never love in the first place. Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord loves the lord, obeys the Lord, and endures with the end - because they have received the Holy Spirit. Yet, Catholics teach that baptism is necessary for salvation. I cannot urge you strongly enough not to believe this. Jesus said, "My Father will give the Holy Spirit to whoever asks of Him (Luke 11.13)." To say that baptism is necessary is to negate the words of Christ, it is to be an enemy of God. Paul said that anyone who preaches a different gospel should be accursed. This might seem like a small matter, but the moment someone starts tampering with the means of how someone is saved is straying into a sin that has eternal consequences. Referring to the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, "Whoever believes in Me will have rivers of living water bubbling up inside them to eternal life." Be careful how you hear! Do you know the Holy Spirit? Do you know Christ? You can meet Him - just by asking! Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

Materialist self soothing is what is leading me in the direction of Christ. Our comfortable lives, while still not easy, are too easy and it is leading to suffering in a strange inversion. Is it not supposed to be that we suffer, and work, and delay gratification so that we may have an easier or more comfortable life? Perhaps things all move in cycles. Either way I feel a distinct lack of discipline and meaning in my materialist, and for a long time atheist worldview. I feel something at times when I look into these things that is hard to describe and I am inclined towards saying it is God or love. It is hard to say, but I feel as western materialism continues to decline our societies we may hopefully see ourselves wondering how we built such prosperous societies that we could choose whether we engage with religion or try to fill a God shaped hole in our hearts with destructive hedonism and perverse, inverted ideology.

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”” ‭‭John‬ ‭6:35-36, 40, 45, 47-48, 51‬ ‭ By that WILL (of God the Father) we have been sanctified (set apart as saints-past tense) through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE for ALL. Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a NEW and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, (sacrificed on the Cross of Calvary) and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. “For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just (declared not guilty of sin having Christ’s righteousness IMPUTED to them) shall live by faith; (IN Christ) But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” (Says The Lord) But WE (saints saved in Christ) are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:9-10, 14, 18-22, 37-39‬ ‭ “And this is the testimony: that God has given us (by His grace and not our works) eternal life, (past tense) And this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may KNOW THAT you have eternal life, and that you may continue to BELIEVE in the name of the Son of God.” ‭‭I John‬ ‭5:11-13‬ ‭

The 45,000 number is demonstrably false. It includes autonomous and self-governing churches. There are not that many denominations, if you consider a denomination to be a network or fellowship of like-minded church bodies, teaching and preaching their doctrine. Also, Luther said that if every man can interpret the scriptures for himself that they will each find their own way to hell. Luther’s claim was NOT that scripture could be interpreted without Tradition, but that Tradition is fallible and any Tradition that opposes scripture is wrong.

@@juliorivera870 Julio, Jesus founded a Church built on Peter. That Church was catholic by the command of Christ who said to His Apostles to go to the whole world. THERE IS ONLY ONE CHURCH FOUNDED BY CHRIST. NOT, MANY DIVISIONS. So you know, a sect is a piece broken from the whole. The Catholic Church is the whole and the proof is beyond reproach. In contrast, Martin Luther and his "reformation" in the 16th century is a piece broken from the whole; from there, many thousands of pieces were broken off in the form of protestant, "bible only", churches and sects, like your own, which today number more than 60,000 around the world. I hope you can begin to understand the state you're in which is not the will of God. A Holy Will, clearly expressed in Holy Scriptures. MATHEW 7, 21-24 21. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who DOES THE WILL of my Father who is in heaven. WHAT IS GOD'S WILL? Read very carefully in: MATTHEW 16:18-19 18. And I tell YOU, YOU are PETER, and on THIS ROCK I will BUILD MY CHURCH, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. . 19. I will GIVE YOU the KEYS of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you BIND on earth shall be BOUND in HEAVEN, and whatever you LOOSE on earth shall be LOOSED in HEAVEN.” JESUS FULL AUTHORITY CAN ONLY BE FOUND IN ONE CHURCH: MATTHEW 18:17 17. If he refuses to listen to them, TELL THE CHURCH. If he refuses to listen EVEN TO THE CHURCH, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. 18. Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. ONLY ONE CHURCH HAS THE TRUTH AS EXPRESSED IN: JOHN 16, 13 13. When the SPIRIT of TRUTH comes, He WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL THE TRUTH; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 1 TIMOTHY 3:15 15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is THE CHURCH of the living God, THE PILLAR and FOUNDATION OF THE TRUTH. JESUS WANTS UNITY NOT DIVISION JOHN 17:20-23 20. “I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word, 21. that THEY MAY ALL BE ONE; even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22. Therefore go and make disciples of ALL NATIONS (Catholic), baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20. and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded YOU. And surely I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, TO THE VERY END OF THE AGE.” ●Throughout this journey Jesus is constantly at our side. NOT ONCE DID HE LEAVE HIS ONE TRUE CHURCH. Do you know why? BECAUSE JESUS GAVE HIS WORD! That's why you can read, 10 years after The Apostle John's death, the following words from a Bishop appointed by Peter who became a martyr by orders of the emperor Trajan. Said Bishop, Ignatius of Antioch, wrote seven letters. Here is an excerpt from his letter to the Smyrneans written in 107AD Chapter 8. Let nothing be done without the bishop ▪︎See that you all follow the bishop, even as Jesus Christ does the Father, and the presbytery as you would the apostles; and reverence the deacons, as being the institution of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever JESUS CHRIST IS, there is the CATHOLIC CHURCH. It is not lawful without the bishop either to baptize or to celebrate a love-feast; but whatsoever he shall approve of, that is also pleasing to God, so that everything that is done may be secure and valid. May God bless your discernment.
