I have an Apos Ray 6SN7 Reserve in my Schiit LYR3. Really took it up another notch compared to the stock tube. I was a little leery about Tube Swapping with the price of tubes... but these Apos 6SN7 tubes made me a believer. Glad I took the leap of faith

I like the tonality of the JJ valves better than the Apos. Warmer tone and better sibilance control. Different strokes for different folks.

Great video and review. Hope someday you can side by side this preamp and kara by the same company. Contemplating on both. Currently have the saga+ with the vidar 2 driving magnepan LRS+. Badly needed the gain stage of both amps. Saga+ only have a buffered active stage with zero gain. Kind a bit lacking on dynamics specially on old recordings that lacks dynamics. Keep up the good work. With content creators like you, hepls us on our audiojourney. TY much

Very good video!! I just have the regular tubes that came with the Freya Plus (JJs) and they do sound good to me. Do want to experiment a bit and do some tube rolling. Is the right side the gain side and is this where you get the most impact?

I use shielded power cords for most of the equipments but DAC and PreAmp I stick with cables like Oyaide Black Mamba Alpha or iFi Nova cables, Thanks

I was using NOS tubes as well with risers...but was never quite right...first of all eliminated socket savers...they change the sonic signature...do not use them is my suggestion...second went with matched quad tubes Electro Harmonix.6sn7 gold plated Extra Height tubes...now it is excellent...will never change

for guitar amps I hated JJ tubes. they sounded dark and muddy., I really loved Tung sol tubes very clear and better mids

Using 4 Ray tubes is just slightly better in micro details not as significant as Gain side, sometimes I like the sound signature of Stock JJ tubes on buffer side, thank you.

This also proves that the Aegir 2 amplifiers are good enough to scale-up with the Ray tubes.

Thanks for the review, it sounds like this may be a good pairing for these tubes (some other reviews are a little less impressed IIRC). Too bad about the ridiculous ugly logo though - I think that's the ugliest logo I've seen on a tube yet. If it was me I'd be inclined to try a few ways to remove the brand logo paint. Ymmv of course.

Yes, many of them have been pretty good for the price but sonic quality is still lacking behind in comparison.

NOS tubes are getting scarce these days, $10-15 tubes are now asking $45-55, I glad we have good quality modern tubes, thanks

Similar experience on my Rogue Medusa. NOS BugleBoy not worth the expense. High noise floor despite better dynamics. I'm better with modern quality 12AU7 tubes over NOS.

@@koilocopiano Gold Lion from Upscale Audio. I didn't A/B against the Bugle Boy but my impression was that both were a bit better than the stock tubes in the Rogue but the Bugle Boy had more background hiss/shhhh

Unfortunately the jbl 100 still lack of bass and you need a subwoofer.

Not one, I use two 12" Martin Logan subs but depending of type of music I don't use them all the time. Some music sound artificial with sub so all case by case.

Nothing really new: JJ: Tubey but bland Chinese: Analytical and bright, dynamic, "transistor-like". These ones here seem to be of the best Chinese kind, they also sound louder, a good way to wake up a single ended amp with 6sn7 in the preamp section, but...
