@@Snapdragon0112 Where was Hypatia when Alexandria was divided and in turmoil then? She was in charge of a pagan elite (illegal because of the Edict of Thessalonica) that was literally controlling the city and pushing the Jews and the Pagans against the Christians. There aren't evidences about Cyril's responsibilities but Hypatia SURELY was NOT a good person. All the sources say that she controlled the prefect and that she could change the situation for the better, but she decided to remain in a state of war with Cyril because she hated the Christians.

Church history is riddled with senseless waste of life, and the fact that it took something that meant well and thoroughly violated it to suit the needs of a few senile men with nothing but blackness in their minds and hearts.

Hypatia was killed because she was actively pushing the prefect of Alexandria (a Pagan/Jew sympathizer) against the Christian community. She was targeted because she was a wicked politician, not because she was a "scientist" (actually there are no evidences about her discoveries or her tools...). Also, the Jews started the attacks against the Christian without reason, as it appears in John of Nikiu's "Chronicle". So yeah, Cyril did his best to protect his people, as his duty required.

In her Neoplatonic academy she was seen educating Jews, Christians and Pagans all in one lecture hall emphasising that the thirst and love for knowledge has no religious barriers. Her ideas are well recorded in scriptures and hse refined many mathematical instruments. Her downfall came when the Christians who had no sense of tolernace saw her high intelligence and intellect in science to be a threat to them for they knew she was way more smarter than them. They accused of her practicing witchcraft and an angry mob of monks killed her brutally. Cyril the so called saint was responsible for instigating these political tensions!

@@tedmink7568 Wow, is it me having no knowledge of Hypatia? We literally know nothing about her ideas because we have NOT EVEN ONE of her works. Most of the scholars today actually think that Hypatia even had a "trivial mind" because her lectures were directed to low level students. So, NO, her ideas are NOT recorded in scriptures and her inventions were probably not so revolutionary. Christians knew she was a threat because of her political influence and her connection with Orestes, not because of her supposed tolerance and "intelligence" (might I remind you that Cyril himself was one of the greatest mind of his century). She was no smarter than anybody. Please, go study Hypatia on serious papers and literature, not on movies and novels. P.S.: I will stand with Cyril till death. He is a real saint.
