As a previous student, instructor, and module lead this video hurts me. I thought highly of App Academy for my entire tenure as a student. In 2021 App Academy did this same behavior regarding President Technical Mentors where one Friday they pulled those in that position into a meeting and immediately laid them off with no warning. I feel sadness for the current students and staff of App Academy for this change, and I feel like this all stemmed from the drastic increase in class sized without the increase of staff. When I was going through the program my cohort had ~50 students. Now there are classes starting at 150+. This is such an amazing field to enter into and I just hope these students can push through to the other side, despite poor decisions from the leadership of App Academy.

TL;DW a/A is terrified about the market, scared that students will have a rough time getting jobs, unsure of the future. They only have so much money. They hastily fired the cohort leads (who they don't consider to be teachers) who lead the cohorts, get to know the students well, plan ahead and fill in the gaps based on learning style and personality, tie everything together with real-world examples, and generally make sure everything goes well. They're moving the money from the actual teachers that the students say are the biggest value for them... And instead making a mad dash to figure out what to do and how to streamline things internally with no known plan. They are claiming that the salaries of all the cohort leads will be reallocated to non student-facing things like artificial-intelligence-driven resume writing software and that this will have a higher long-term benefit. A huge value is being removed but the tuition for the school will stay the same. The students are not happy about this.

So sad! I loved my time there and this just makes the experience a lot less valuable. The cohort leads were the heart of the cohort. They stayed with you through the journey and motivated me when I doubted myself! 😢

This is so messed up. Typical business these days. Whoever is left should definitely be compensated for taking on the extra burdens thrust on them

If the AI doesn't cut it they can always lay it off and reallocate the resources.

Wow. I'm having flashbacks from when they did something similar during the cohort I was in. The thing you can't see from the outside is that all of these students STILL have exams on Monday. STILL have to learn the new material and STILL have to deal with the stress of a coding BootCamp. You don't have any time to process what happened and just have to move forward with fewer resources but the SAME price. I feel for these students!
