This is precious - are ya sure this isn’t my front porch after supper lol? My Scottish Mammaw taught my Cherokee Pappaw to clog in the 30’s (13 kids) and we ain’t let go of this part of a Good Clean Time. ❤️Sweet story of the Instruments being given to you Angels. Clog away and God bless you youngens. I’m thankful for ya.

In watching you two, I can see how traditional mountain Folk style clogging came from the Irish Step dancing style. Great job!

This is likely to have originated in Lancashire rather than Ireland. Check out some of the Lancastrian cloggers.

@@jimmywells33 Considering so many of the Scottish and Irish migrated here and into the Appalachian mountains, I would agree with you. Same for our bluegrass music coming from the Scottish and Irish music.

Various forms of percussive clog and hard shoe dances were found in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and France and "wooden shoe" dances are recorded on the stage in England and Europe back through the 18thC and into the 17thC ( think Dutch Klompen or French style Sabots perhaps?). Records show Canadian male and competing lumberjacks and 19thC Vaudeville. US clog dancers came from many countries. The Appalachian folk made their own special version.

Excellent job!!! 🤩I’m in CA and I took clogging as a child. Can still do it too. I was yellin out the names of the steps to my husband. “That’s a flatlander, sidewinder, a basic, a mountain goat!” etc. He just stared at me like 🫥. 😂😂

Love this so much!! We we're stationed in the UP. They were the friendliest, most helpful, nicest people just like back home in Tennessee. All our Southern pre conceived notions were sooooooo wrong. Loved it up there.

Well, as David said, "That was plenty fun." !🥰 I dont know how to clog but my 80 year Mom does. I did study dance for about 20 years. And while I loved and respected all styles, I found tap my favorite because I LOVED when my feet were making noise. 😅👍

There was never a tradition of wearing clogs in Ireland, it started in the cotton mills of northern England with girls tapping their clogs to the beat of the looms, this turned into competition, every inn in England had a plate to step on.

I'm a 6 time national champion clogger. It's been many years since saw anyone dancing. We had several Saturday night hoedowns in my area but they just shutdown. I enjoy watching your videos. You're both very talented.

I just love watching folks clog. Even though I grew up in Kansas my maternal grandparents must've had some Appalachian blood running in their veins. I love these video clips, i've only just discovered Buck and clog dancing from the states. I was aware of clog dancing from Wales and the north West of England though.

I had never heard of clogging until the other day when it was mentioned in a tv series called the righteous gemstones. I’m watching videos on it now. Fascinating. These girls are clearly experts at it. Wonderful.

Someone without much common sense & probably clicked on it by mistake...they most likely clicked by mistake. Growing up, my favorite subject in school was social studies, learning about different countries & states. One tends to be prejudice about what they don't know. The more I have learned about Appalachia the more I appreciate the culture. Love & appreciate these young ladies!
