I don't know if my life will ever line up to do a thru hike, however for the reasons you mention (how difficult it is right from the start) I think I would definitely do it NOBO for that very reason. That is why I'm eager to watch your journey- best of luck!

It is much harder to hike the trail Sobo than Nobo, but at least if you can make it through the hard stuff at the beginning, you know the rest (except maybe northern Pennsylvania) will be easier. Plus it's always nicer to be hiking toward your home.

Great job! Good coverage of the 100 mile wilderness. I think so many NOBO hikers short change this 100 miles because they are so close to the end. And because it is one of the longest food carries.
