Yes Senator Lee, there IS a way to restrict your kids from accessing dangerous content. BE A PARENT and tell them NO!! Don't PAY for the plans that allow them to go on Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok. Novel concept I know, but many have said including Senator Hawley, the sites ARE dangerous, so WHY would ANY parent, allow their child to access something they KNOW, is dangerous?? The government can pass all the laws they want, but in the end, it is up to PARENTS to care for their children.

It's interesting that at a hearing about the dangers of social media that half the people in the room have their noses stuck in their cell phones.

The pathetic preening and grandstanding by these Senators is nauseating. Pass these bills into law- stop the slow walking of this and put some teeth in it.

Many companies make me go through a pre-approval process to utilize my veteran status for discounts and such. If lowes has a system to ensure I am eligible for a 10% discount, why can't these companies ensure kids are not on sites that they shouldn't be on?

Here's an idea, how about parents take the initiative and stop giving your children smartphones. If they need a phone, how about a flip phone One that doesn't have a screen that they can take pictures with be on social media with and everything else if they are not at least the age of 16 they do not belong on social media. They don't belong online at all except for doing school work and research for papers and things like that. That way you're not inviting predators into your child's portal to the world.

Let's make it simple: no one under 18 should be allowed to use any of those platforms. Parents should supervise their kids' devices. Internet Service Providers should offer more parental parameters and platforms should be held accountable if they allow minors to use their services illegally.

Here’s another radical idea… well, two of them: 1. Heavily invest in public schools and education, and make all kids attend extracurricular activities each evening and Saturday so they don’t have too much time to be bored, and eventually bring back British-style boarding schools and French-style “internats”. Mandate media literacy, rational use of the Internet, logic, rhetoric, geopolitics and IT in all public schools. Ban smartphones and social media within said schools and allow kids to go only on a school intranet for educational, vocational and professional purposes. 2. Introduce a birth-giving permit and parenting license. I think the first one is more realistic and constitutional. All jokes aside… You just can’t expect corporations to “self-regulate”. History shows us they won’t. The government needs to step in sometimes. I’m glad even the Republicans are starting to slowly get that. But the question is how much will those corporations lobby so that lawmakers keep their mouths shut.

The second thing is tech companies must not be able to store any data period after removal request Deleting an account and removing stored data should be easy to do, that’s not what is happening now.
