Apple and puff pastry dessert with soft apples and crispy cinnamon sugar crust. Incredibly quick dessert!
Ingredients (8-10 servings):
2 apples (total weight 500 g)
1 package puff pastry (275 g)*
25 g sugar
2 g cinnamon (1 teaspoon)
1 egg for egg wash
½ tsp all-purpose flour
powdered sugar (optional)
How to make
Preheat the oven to 200 C (390 F). Cut 500 grams of apples into rings around 8-10 mm (approximately 0.3-0.4 inches) wide.
Core the apple with a special or regular knife. A broad bottle cap also works perfectly for coring the apple rings. Make a wide hole in the apple rings. We recommend a hole with a diameter of at least 2 cm (about 0.8 inches).*
Take the puff pastry out of the fridge. We are using one package of puff pastry weighing 275 g. Roll it out and sprinkle it with a little flour (about ½ teaspoon). This way, you can easily work with the puff pastry, which will not stick to your hands. Spread flour over the pastry.
Cut the pastry into strips 1-1.5 cm wide (approximately 0.4-0.6 inches).
Put one puff pastry strip through the hole in an apple ring and wrap it around. Keep looping until the apple ring is fully covered. Repeat for all the rings and strips.
If it takes too long, you can make small croissants instead. Half the apple rings and wrap puff pastry strips around it.
Mix 25 g of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
Mix 1 egg for egg wash. Brush with the egg.
Place on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.*
Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon mix.*
Bake at 200 C (390 F) with the oven rack in the lower-middle position for 25 minutes. Use the top-bottom mode. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if you like.
Tips
*Use yeast-free puff pastry.
*With broad holes, looping the puff pastry strips through will be easier. With small holes, the strips start to stick together.
*Use non-sticking parchment paper or grease parchment paper with oil.
*If you dislike cinnamon, sprinkle the dessert with sugar for a crispy crust.
