I’m a gamer as well but I only play Riot and Blizzard games which can run fine on pretty much any Apple machine. Usually the most popular games worldwide could run on a toaster, playing Cyberpunk on Uber Ultra Max seems like a rather niche market compared to 500 million users on Among Us. But I feel like Apples new Silicon is gonna be perfectly capable for even that stuff soon...while also running cool and quietly...that sounds amazing as a fellow gamer:)

Depending on then the 14” M1 will come out i might get a 13” M1 first and trade it in then i order the 14”. I was always confused bc in those years there Steve Jobs had left Apple the Adobe CS was the only reason they could survive this time until he came back. Now to hear from some people that Adobe Programs run faster on PC’s seems very strange, even given the fact the Nvidia has some sort of cooperation agreement with Nvidia. It will maybe take 1/2 more months for Adobe to bring out a Full version of Premiere Pro for Apple M 1 like they did already with After Effects

As a filmmaker, I’m the middle of a large corporate project and my Mac Mini is powering through 4k multicam edits and rendering long, heavy timelines with ease and I never have to ask my client to wait for rendering, as before. These M1’s are the new baseline for speed and everyone else is going to have to catch up.

Intel Xe may be better than the previous generation, but it's still Intel integrated graphics, so I wouldn't expect a whole lot. Intel's never been known for their graphics prowess. I wonder how much performance would pick up if Intel handed all the encode/decode work to a dedicated processor like Apple does with the T2. But until that happens, I will definitely be getting a MBP.
@AaronFigFront

Nothing, encoders are part of the chip but they do not influence generally compute power, they are specialized hardware.
@mereobserver1727
@mereobserver1727 3 жыл бұрын
Similarly to Apple's T2, most APUs have dedicated hardware (ASICs) for media decoding and encoding. In case with Intel, they've been doing this for at least 10 years now, via Quicksync Video... and one could say, they have gone a long way since, nearly matching M1 feature-wise (still trailing in performance though). TL;DR they work great as decoders - but user's discretion is needed for encoding with them. In my own experience (as well as that of Handbrake developers), Apple's implementation of the VideoToolBox framework (for accessing hw media acceleration on QSV, T2 and M1 chips) sacrifices quality / efficiency for speed. Besides, there's no way to adjust this tradeoff... meaning you just have to throw more bitrate to achieve same visual fidelity as you would, say, on "Quality" preset with QSV on Windows (which itself doesn't hold a candle to software encoding or, in some instances, NVENC and VCE, in terms of quality).

Unlike the M1, Tiger Like doesn’t have a dedicated ML processor like the Neural engine. It just has instructions and data type optimisation; Whether Premiere uses it I don’t know, but it’s not at all close to the same kind of thing and won’t be as significant a difference

@@casperes0912 I guess you're right. Little is known about AI accelerators (namely, DL Boost and GNA 2.0) embedded into Tiger Lake, whether there's dedicated hw, or merely optimized instructions for execution on both CPU and GPU. And yet, the weakest point, IMHO, is absence of popular frameworks like Core ML and Create ML among others. That said, looks like they still got Adobe onboard. I had an M1 Mac Mini on order in late December but cancelled the order. I generally wait for at least 2nd generation of any thing before making a purchase decision. Somewhere I read there was silicon with a 10Gbe onboasrd in the parts list, and yet, it is not offered as an option for the M1 Mac Mini. Also 4 thunderbolt ports reduced to 2 also is not attractive. I am sure these are more marketing strategies by Apple rather then technological limitations. Piecemeal feed tech to the market to be able to sell another round of M1X ? Mac Minis. Anyway, this year I may finally make the move either for a 2nd Gen MacMini or the Macbook Pro 16". We'll see as to what specs and ports Apple offers as well as gains of a secon generation of Apple silicon. Thus far, rumored, the Mag safe is returning, and the touch bar is going away. I wish that Apple would finally get around to giving us a touch screen, or at least an orderable option. I really enjoy your videos. Very knowledgeable, well-organized and professional. Thanks.

I'm planning to buy Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 15.6 inch as my primary machine 'cause I'm traveling so much lately. I thought of buying m1 13 inch first, but the screen size is not in my favor. My most of the video editing work is heavy 1080p. Do you think that i7 with iris Xe graphics laptop will be able to handle heavy 1080p video editing and I'm also gonna work on after effects 1080p projects?

One serious question: Do you believe that in the future, the usage of the CPU and iGPU of the Razer will become optimized ?? Theoretically speaking A future DaVinci and Premiere Pro version may be able to fully utilise the Iris Xe iGPU Also a a firmware update by Intel could also be beneficial as it is the first Iris integrated GPU. For YEARS intel offered UHD gpus which were nothing more than a beefed up version of the Intel HD graphics

Thanks for this video. Was it 8 bits or 10 bits files? I really think I'm gonna switch from Windows to Mac. Just not sure if 16GB of RAM is enough because we can see the Mac was swapping 6GB just on a 5 minutes project.

I haven’t read all the reactions, so perhaps you already found out. The reason both GPU and CPU aren’t maxed out on some of the benchmarks in the first half of the video has to do with the fact the GPU and CPU don’t have access to the same addresses in RAM. Everything in the CPU’s memory address space needs to be copied over to GPU RAM before the graphics chip can work on it (and vice versa) and this creates a bottleneck. This is even true in X86 systems that use integrated graphics. The Macs so unified memory solution does not suffer from this limitation.

Nice video but there are some very wrong assumptions going on. First that's definitely not the best PC laptop for video editing for that price, it's an Intel GPU so no you need to compare with a rtx3060 at minimum, second Windows laptops need to be configured and clean al the blootware that comes from the manufacturer, so the best is to just whype the system and install fresh, it's not pretty but it's windows, after this everyone working with Mac M1s know that for heavy workflow not just play a clip the system overflows, overheats and start to get buggy. Don't get me wrong these are amazing for occasional editing and light work, but not for 8hrs day heavy work with effects and color filters.

It's more of an issue with the laptop he chose. There are Windows laptops that are both cheaper and faster than the M1 (the $600 Lenovo Slim 5 puts the M1s multicore score to shame). For $1000, most Windows laptops come with a discrete GPU, it's obvious that Max went out of his way to choose the slowest Windows laptop he could find. The Razer Book was panned by critics for being underpowered, I'm not sure why he thought it would be a "solid challenge"

I wonder how much of it is poor optimization? I know it's an almost apple to oranges comparison but my relatively elderly Galaxy s9+ can edit 4k x264 and hevc like it's nothing, regardless of what software I use, be it Kinemaster, Premiere Go etc. Obviously the software used here is much more advanced and feature rich but It's crazy that with some software, you can't even get a smooth preview with the Windows laptop. My ancient smartphone won't even break a sweat previewing 4k footage inside the video editors, even with bitrates up towards 200 and I can seek through it as smooth as silk too. My Dell i7 laptop, which is the same age as the phone and in theory should easily edit 4k footage is borderline unusable in Vega Pro and Premiere, even trying to click different places on the timeline results in a long delay and it can't even playback a tiny low res preview at more than a few frames per second. I can only assume it's bad optimization and the hardware not being used to it's potential. Again, I realize the software is very different but the way my phone can so easily throw that footage around and preview it is just effortless and yet my laptop just grinds to a halt with the same footage despite supposedly also having hardware support video decoding and encoding. It's so bad I literally gave up with the laptop and just plug my phone into the monitor and use it with a usb mouse. Even though the editing software has some limitations, I can edit a short video in less than an hour and render it in a few minutes whereas on the laptop, it would take several frustrating sessions over a period of days and never really being exactly sure what the results will be till the file is rendered as the preview is so choppy. It shouldn't take a £1500 macbook just to be able to edit 4k smoothly when my old phone worth maybe £100 can do it with both hands tied behind it's back.
