The Techcrunch Disrupt conference just ended, and the hosts discuss the winning startup, "Your Mechanic, and what it is like starting technology companies amidst existing giants such as Google and Facebook. Glenn explains why he thinks it is too bad that, despite great existing map software, Apple decides to create its own mapping software for iOS from scratch.

Obviously you haven't even used the app... maybe its just that I live in Japan, but 90% of what I search for - be it in Japanese or English - comes up not found. Things that are located are usually way off from where they should be. If I were to pretend that this wasn't bad enough, there is no longer public transportation support or access to my planned routes. Finally, my bookmarks have a nasty habit of being overwritten. Tell me, who really is the lemming here....

Apart from some rendering issues and obvious misnamed places is there any real evidence that the new maps are indeed less accurate that Google, Bing and other maps. Really I feel that we're all being a bunch of lemmings here with everyone talking about the maps issues with zero evidence. Prove me wrong chaps - show me some real data. What I see in my area is one sports center that is a park but you know, when I open tomtom I see the same park......
