Apple has now leapfrogged leaders Microsoft and Google in the high-stakes AI race by promising the first killer use of AI - a true personal assistant, in the form of.... the iPhone. Even the stock, once a laggard, has jumped to historic highs, anchored by Apple’s singular combination of hardware, software and data. But its biggest edge over AI devices like the Humane pin and Rabbit R1 is that it’s already in billions of consumers’ pockets. This week on TechCheck, Apple takes the AI lead.
0:00 - Apple takes the lead
4:57 - Chatbots everywhere
5:45 - Device of the future
7:24 - Too early to call?

People seem to forget to mention that it will also be available on any Apple product that has an M1 chip or later. All Macs and MacBooks sold over the last four years that have them. Three generations of iPad Pros, this year’s iPad Air, etc. Of course I know that the iPhone is about half of Apple’s sales and that’s including software and services, still, it’s a very large number of people other than just phone users.

And what about the problem of using copyrighted information in AI training. It is something that all developers have maliciously covered up. Although in the fine print of RRSS and media users it is said that all content that is published on the platform, the authors or producers cede all rights, but that is not entirely clear... many platforms have broken laws but The regulators strangely look the other way.... Will someone brave bell the cat? Because in a general case the data centers, internet providers, lines, etc. would be collaterally involved. Appl has intelligently delayed the development of its AI intentionally, so it will take on more advanced and trained systems, eliminating costly learning.

Apple should learn from Nokia's past missteps, where overconfidence led to significant market share losses. By prioritizing exclusivity over user loyalty, Apple risks repeating history and driving away its dedicated customer base. Apple seems aware of that they are behind the AI integration across its products, to be a rushed introduction of generative AI looks like a panic move?. Naming its AI function "Apple Intelligence" and adopting the slogan "AI for the rest of us" may seem clever, but restricting AI features exclusively to the iPhone 15 series contradicts this inclusive message. This selective approach is seen as unfair and disloyal to the majority of iPhone users who are left without access to these advancements. Moreover, Apple's new "personal intelligence" tool looks like not groundbreaking compared to competitors where more sophisticated AI offerings. The decision to limit AI features raises serious questions about Apple's strategy and the rationale behind this exclusivity. It risks alienating loyal Apple users who may feel neglected and prompt them to consider competing brands that offer more inclusive and advanced AI solutions.

The excessive praise and glossing surrounding Apple and its AI have been overstated and very much oversaturated. It is premature to claim that Apple has surpassed its competitors when they have yet to produce any concrete results. Their efforts have been limited to demos, interesting concepts, and a sophisticated marketing strategy. Apple's reputation has preceded it, and people are eager to jump on the bandwagon, which is why the hype train is so prevalent. I have never witnessed such widespread delusion. Over the past week, people have completely disregarded the accomplishments of others and are fixated solely on Apple's achievements. Let us not forget about Google, which possesses all of these features and more, and a platform that is equally extensive to Apple's. We are treating Apple as if they are the only ones who have accomplished this, despite the fact that they have yet to release anything. Let us wait and see what they actually implement before we start heaping praise upon them to such an extent. Let's come to our senses! Google is second to none when it comes down to this AI revolution than any other player in this market besides Open AI, let's not make no mistake when it comes down to it

I mean the difference is Apple is building AI capabilities within its device not to mention it is providing a genuine use case for AI chatbots. The ability to have a personalised mobile assistant in a world where everything is based on content creation and social media all on device puts Apple ahead of the competition by quite some distance. The iPhone is the greatest invention of this generation and once they introduce your own personal assistant on your device, nobody else will be able to compete. The metaverse isn't going to be adopted and neither will neuralink/merging with machine. So the next best product to have a mass adoption will be a device with your own personalised AI Agent. Apple is such an amazing company who have really taken the time to think about the needs of their consumers before coming out with a product or new innovation. Not to mention, it requires everyone to upgrade their hardware in the coming cycles. Haven't really seen a use case for AI agents/chatbots. Sam Altman has already said he believes that currently most products we're seeing are glorified chatbots. OpenAI have also been struggling to build a sustainable business model due to the lack of usecases of chatbots.

Apple’s moat is that they control both hardware and software, trusted for its privacy, and has been improving their ai hardware slowly for the last couple years…

Google could easily develop their own social network to become the most used platform worldwide and capitalize on it 10x times more (KZfaq) They could destroy Spotify by making KZfaq Music just "Music" and making it free and pre-installed in every android phone. With low cost plans for HQ music. But they don't want to, because those things would automatically make them an even more obvious Monopoly. And they are already bribing enough sectors for the costs to go up by making themselves a target. Apple's cover is "luxury and exclusivity " Google, on the other hand, is already EVERYWHERE

@patricehenri8172 ---- Take a look Samsung, their largest competitor, 90% of their sales are low-end phones. About 10% of Samsung phones (around 25 million) are high-end competitive with Apple. Samsung cannot afford to put sophisticated processors that handle AI on low-cost phones. At the same time Apple sells to consumers close to 300 million devices per year with high-end processors. Bottom line is Apple not only has a huge user base, they also have the user base with the best demographics. With smaller Android competitors Apple has an even larger advantage due to Androids' low sales of high-end phones.

AI has been around since the 1950s and it’s just now making its way mainstream. Sometimes I question whether they leak these things out slowly to make max profit or they genuinely still need to make some improvements or they hold back for other reasons. I wonder what they’re working on now that’ll make mainstream in 70 years.

Apple isn’t paying OpenAI though? They agreed that OpenAI’s exposure on Apple devices is of greater value

They are leap frogging. No other device is using a llm performing most actions that need AI on device. More complex requests are sent to private cloud servers using Apple silicon, and then for all other requests that can’t be fulfilled on device or through their servers are then handled by chatGPT (with your permission). And keep in mind that one of Apple’s core values is privacy, so all the information (texts, emails, contacts, calendars, etc) is not being given to a company that will happily sell your data to advertisers (Google, Microsoft). It’s truly a personal assistant that is using YOUR data while maintaining all of the details for your life on device.

This is a horrible take! Just horrible. This bias towards Apple is not fair. Not a single AI feature Apple showed has been released. Gemini Nano is already in the hands of every Pixel 8, Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24. Google has every app and service that Apple showed off. You all really need to get out of this Apple bubble and realize that not everyone wants to use an Apple device.
