I’ve got the new AppleTV remote and it’s a big improvement. It’s especially good if you struggled with the touch interface or have Parkinson’s. Also iTunes extras like different versions of the movie or deleted scenes, are only available through apple devices, even though the AppleTV app is available on smart devices of other brands.

I use my Beats headphones everytime I watch something on my Apple TV but not for other people since I live on my own, but because I love to fully immerse myself when I’m watching something , and every little noise can ruin the experience for me (yes I’m very picky, you should see me in movie theatres lol), therefore noise canceling headphones are more than welcome.

Personally, I upgraded from the previous model 4K Apple TV to the latest model for two reasons - 1) most obviously, the new remote 2) if you’re deeply invested in the apple ecosystem, as I am, the addition of CEC control and the ability to send Dolby Atmos Audio to paired OG HomePods is a game-changing feature. This lets me send 5.1/7.1 bitstream from my Xbox series X to the paired HomePods I use with my TV!

@@2highagain sorry for the late reply - it works well for me with no discernible latency using 2 Large HomePods, the 2021 AppleTV 4K, and my TCL TV (with arc). I believe the HomePods are outputting Dolby surround/atmos via bitstream out on the XSX. The Apple TV also has a tool/setting to reduce wireless audio lag. Some tech sites might be able to give you the specifics. I’m guessing this is comparable to some of the Sonos setups people have. I haven’t been able to get my AirPods to output Xbox sound, however. I don’t believe this functionality is supported currently. I’m guessing there would be too much latency.

Just got the 2021 ATV4k and always used Fire TV before that. Maaaaaan, where has this thing been all my life?!? The ATV 4K makes my old Fire TV cube look like a piece of junk!! I haven’t even used an HDMI 2.1 cable yet (still have the old 2.0) and I have an older 2016 Samsung curve and the increased picture quality BLOWS ME AWAY. I can immediately tell the difference. I can imagine what it’s like when you experience the max quality if it’s this good even without! Sound quality improvement is also quite noticeable as I used to hate the weak sound that came out of the Fire TV. It was just so flat even with a high end sound bar. With the ATV sometimes I can’t tell the Atmos quality from the other PCM outputs unless the movie/show is really old (like 80’s/90’s). And I agree with what you said about the price. I thought about this before buying it and when I compared the space limitations of my Fire TV cube with the ATV, I realized that there’s a difference of 6x the space! Also, the processor alone makes it worth the upgrade. Add in all the features and the value speaks for itself. It really is a premium experience. The only funky thing I’ve noticed since I got this is that my TV is more bipolar now (switches on and off without me touching it), but for now I just unplug it when I want it to stay off. I’ve seen videos that say to turn off the CEC but I like using those features so can’t do that. That’s the only thing the Fire TV handled better - literally the only thing. All in all LOVE THIS THING!!!

Coming from a 10-year-old Apple TV - I needed a new one - "obviously"... If I were to only need a new remote I figure the $60 price tag would be well worth it. How can a remote control be so great... 1- quickly open a new app with Siri & button location 2 - new trackpad becomes intuitive very fast - may be too sensitive on occasion 3- having a Mute button on it is well worth it - I use it all the time. & not having to dig up the television remote - 4- the size is just right in the hand - the flat sides (ala iPhone 12) are gold - Very ergonomic. 5- Rechargeable battery - hala 6- Being able to easily use the controls (most used are the mute, volume & pause buttons) without requiring to pick the remote up is also nice (for me 50% of the time) Lots of smaller remotes are not so well designed in that way! After a few more days I end up using all of the buttons in that way & less so the trackpad part. 7 The ability to start and shut down Apple TV * television with one power button is great. I use the power button all the time - it is the only remote I need to use now. 8- the backspace button is concave - makes it easier to find as the other buttons are not. 9- If you are scrolling down on a grid of icons and are not sure which one you are currently on - you just need to highly brush the touchpad and the icon will jiggle as you do so. Fn Brilliant... 10 - Build quality is top knock. For the Apple TV 4K (future proof for newer set & improved resolutions) 32GB- what I like best - in no order 1- Up Next cue. 2- Faster 3- Just better overall 4- Able to lock in playback speed in YT (not able to do that on the old A tv - firestick did not permanently lock it in) 5- TV+ app integration with some other apps One thing I will miss for ease of use (as on the Fire Stick remote) is to be able to simply with a 2 button press (1 long - 1 short) "save to watch later" a video while browsing on KZfaq. With Apple, it is way less easy (more miserable - 8 button press) to do. A month later for me. I think it works great overall I love having the mute button - game-changer when letter ads run their course. The trackpad is good and I use it a lot - except there ends up being many false actions that occur. The Siri button is used occasionally and the button location is spot on.

I want to say this feels like a sponsored video. After watching I realized this was less of a review and more like an Apple Keynote: - Makes sure to mention AppleTV+ shows look "especially" good. - Makes sure to mention Apple's new color calibration feature, but no review on whether or not that is any good after 6 months of reviewing the unit. - Claims cheaper devices don't have ethernet ports (I'm thinking of Google's old Chromecast Ultra being $100 cheaper and it had an ethernet port) - It felt forced that you had to mention every other Apple product available to buy (HomePods, AirPods, etc.). - The only downside being that Siri's speech detection is not great. A longstanding complaint. My questions coming into this were: - Is the color calibration feature any good? Did you ever test it out in the 6 months you've had it? - Did you have any thoughts on having the AirTags tech built into the $60 remote? Did you ever misplace the remote or think of asking you Siri on your HomePods/iPhone "where is the remote?" like you can with all the other devices with Find My? Any thoughts on what justifies the remote even being $60? Is it just because it doesn't get caught in your couch cushions after 6 months of use? It seems to have pretty much the same feature set as the competition, albeit the tvOS integrations (but that really isn't the remote doing that, is it?), but it is more expensive. - After having the AppleTV 4K (2G) for 6 months has it improved your experience with the rest of the Apple ecosystem? Is having the AppleTV 4K (2G) make for a better experience on Apple Fitness+? - Is there enough content with Spatial Audio that makes it worth the cost of entry? With this being called a "long term review... after 6 months of use" I expected more here. This was not much more than an Apple Keynote of all the features announced the day the device was released.
@6MonthsLater2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback and I’m sorry we didn’t get all of your questions answered in the review but hope this additional information helps: • Didn’t end up testing the color calibration feature since my setup is Dolby Vision 4K and that signal coming from the Apple TV doesn’t need extra calibration (which I didn’t realize would be the case when we originally got it). • AirTag functionality built into the remote would have been a nice feature, but because the thickness of the remote was increased it never got lost in my couch cushions like the previous version so for me it isn’t necessarily. A feature that would be better in fact is being able to pair multiple remotes to the TV, so you don’t have to keep moving them around. - Apple TV has improved the experience of with the rest of the Apple Ecosystem in two main ways for me: AirPlay speaker group audio output has been very useful, especially for when I’m cooking in the kitchen and want to hear the audio from the tv better, I can just output the audio to my kitchen speakers which is awesome. 2nd way is spatial audio, for apartment living it allows me to stay up late watching content with blockbuster sound without keeping people up. - Spatial audio works with almost ALL content. It’s very rare I’m watching something that hasn’t at least been mixed in 5.1 and for modern content a lot of it is being mixed it Atmos now. It really is a great feature. - Hope that better answers some of the questions you had coming into the video and thanks again for the feedback. Josh

You missed the annoying loud clicks of the remote volume buttons. It's like I'm using a cat training clicker. It makes a click pressing down, and makes a clicking noise when releasing the button. It ruins the entire experience.

Not enough bass? Use a pair of the original HomePods not the mini garbage. Still need more bass, add a powered subwoofer using AirPort express like I’m doing.

New remote is good but they should swap the mute and play buttons so the play button is in the same place as the previous remote.

One thing that drives me crazy about airplay is that lets say i want to use airplay to stream youtube from my phone to my apple tv…. Cool it works great. But lets say i want to also scroll through facebook on my phone while youtube is still streaming to the tv. Well… this is where things get annoying. Facebook and other apps will take control of airplay and cancel youtube to stream whatever video i clicked on in facebook to my tv. Now i understand that theres a setting “automatically airplay to tvs” and you can set it to always ask or never. But no matter what i have this set to it will always stop youtube and play whatever im looking at on my phone. Which is infuriating. Its almost as if i cant multi task anymore. Unless i open the youtube app on the apple tv and consume content that way.

Another big issue with AirPlay is that if you put your iPhone to sleep it’ll pause the content you’re watching which is pretty annoying, the only time that doesn’t happen is if the app you’re streaming from uses iOS’s native player which most apps don’t, Google Cast is far superior IMO.

We should have pointed out that service as well! We had a shot of it in the OS but must have to forgot to use it in the final cut. - Josh

Dolby Vision is too dark in apple tv 4k. Not worth it. So disappointed. The Dolby Vision is still better in the android TV built in apps. And does not support HDR10+ in Prime.
