Thanks for the tutorial! I used an AliExpress screen, it’s identical and works 100%. (Series 6) Comes with a 3M double-back sticker to seal it. Time will tell if that is good enough for water resistance I guess. I was afraid of using glue because I’m sure I’ll end up having to replace the screen again and I feel like it would be hard to remove then. Had to buy a separate 0.1mm spudger to remove the screen. It’s a little trickier if it’s all smashed up but still doable.

Update: The screen fell out with a gentle tap about 24 hours after using the 3M double-sided tape that came with the AliXpress version. The screen works perfectly fine, but spend a few dollars and use the B-7000 glue.

What does the black ribbon do? The one you mentioned not to worry about.

im also curious. i tore it as soon as he said its fine to. Now i have no touch functionality

Probably a connection for grounding the display from picked up static electric discharges. To keep it safe. The display is probably also grounded in other ways, I still recommend to not break that bit.
