This week we're finally getting Carl in his first coats of epoxy primer, and we're ROLLING the primer on using Eastwood's OptiFlow. We'll be doing two more stages of priming and lots of sanding in between, but for now it's great to have Carl in epoxy. Also, before we got started priming, we got to have a brand new adventure, removing the front and rear windshields.
And I have to admit, it was fun to feel a little like ‪@EvanAndKatelyn‬ when I was mixing my 1:1 epoxy for the first time. They're some of my favorite KZfaqrs and I love it every time they mix resin!
Special thank you to ‪@eastwoodco‬ for providing the Optiflow roll-on primer system. I'm really impressed with how the epoxy rolled on, and I'm looking forward to see how the rest of the priming stages go!

That look very easy. I may try it my self on my truck instead of spraying it. NO over spray witch is the best part. Yes DO NOT rush the paint job, like you said : the hardest and most visible part of the job" and your restoration. A lot of sanding and re-priming is the hardest and most boring job but it pays off in the end when the paint is applied. The bugs can be removed once the primer is dry, just wipe them off. use 320 grit sand paper for the first sanding on the first coat of primer. maybe even on the second. Use 600 grit sand paper on the last coat of prime before paint to remove all scratches from any coarser sand paper used before. Also when using tack cloth don't push hard on the surface as you wipe it. You can leave the sticky residue on the paint/prime and it ca ruin your paint job. Just lightly wipe to get all dust and dirt to stick to it and removed from the car. Just my 2 cents. Great work and good luck. P.S. When reinstalling the front and rear windshields you might call a professional car window installer. You don't want any water leak in the car and they do it every day. I've done a lot of things on the cars over the years but that is not one of them and i will have a pro installer replace my cracked windshield in my truck.

I've seen some people roll on the final paint. It works,but there's a lot of sanding and buffing to make it good. I first saw Evan and Katelyn when they did a project with Alec Steele and I've watched them since then. They would probably make the whole car out of resin.

You guys are great. It was nice of Eastwood to supply that primer kit. But, if you had been paying for the primer kit yourselves, for not much more you could have bought a compressor, spray gun and some epoxy primer. And you could spray the whole car in 20 minutes and the primer would be hard the next day. Just a thought for next time. Like I said, you guys are great. I especially like that you gave your Falcon a name :)
@ronskopitz2360
@ronskopitz2360 Жыл бұрын
I see the kit with the urethane primer online for around $500, which wouldn’t even buy a compressor capable of spraying paint well, plus drier, hoses, gun - and then also buying the paint. Plus the cleanup of the gun, etc. and the advantage to the roller of no overspray. For a DIY job, you’ve only got a few hours on the weekend to work on it anyway, so the 5-day wait isn’t a deal breaker, IMO. Gotta say I think the roller is the way to go!!

Quick question. Ho was the smell in the garage after. While it was curing? Thinking of doing this in my garage but it’s below the bedrooms attached to my house. I’m worried about the smell going upstairs.
@ElliesGarage
@ElliesGarage 2 жыл бұрын
That's a really good question and something that would have been good for us to address in the video. In a word, it is STRONG. Anytime we spray paint, especially with 2K paint or doing the OptiFlow, the fume smell would find its way into the entire first floor. Now, we don't have the best seal on our garage door, and I feel like if we put some effort into sealing it up that it would be a lot better, BUT to answer your question, yes the fumes are definitely there and if your garage door isn't sealed pretty well, then you'll probably need to open windows in your house (like we did). Hope that helps.

Can you sand the epoxy primer? Are you adding another type of primer on top?
@ElliesGarage
@ElliesGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the epoxy sands really nicely. We just finished sanding our first layers of epoxy on the hood and trunk lid, then we did body filler to low areas, sanded again, and just put on 2 more coats of epoxy. Soon we'll be doing that to the rest of the car. Then once it's all in it's second stage of epoxy, then we'll sand it again and put on 3 or 4 coats of urethane primer. Once we sand that, then we'll be ready for paint.
