How can I get in touch with you please? I would like a step by step process and especially the part about what to take to the consulate for retirement residency and the tricky part about getting a 6 month VIsa and then waiting a specific amount of time to cross the border because once there I only have 30 days to go to the INM? Or do I make copies of the paper you showed regarding the appointment? Please help me.

Wife and I just left the consulate in Houston Texas. I went first and I was approved, went by my work solvency. Wife went next as my dependent, two hiccups, no original marriage certificate and missing 12 months of bank statements only 6 months that was required for me. Fortunately I printed 12 months of payroll direct deposits. Sara our agent was so helpful, I was able to show her a photo of the marriage certificate on my phone, and asked to email to her. She went to her supervisor with all of the information and went to bat for us. She was able to get her approved. We have our Mexican visa and have 6 months to enter mexico to do the final step, meet with immigration. Question, are we assured that we will get our Mexican temporary residency card? A big shout out to Sara!!! It took us 45 minutes and we were doing our Mexican happy dance outside the consulate office. Heading back to Puerto Morelos soon

YES! Thank you so much!! From all the videos I watched, comments I read, FB posts, and even the mexican consulate webpages I checked: you're the only one who finally mentioned the marriage path. All I needed was a yes or no answer from two questions that weren't 100% clear, and you answered them. Calling or writing an email to the consulate also didn't help yet. I love you. It took me so many efforts and money to sponsor my husband, and now when we'll fully be ready to move to his hometown, I am now more prepared to face the tempest ahea haha. Have a good day!

Hi Alex, once again you're helping so many navigate through the Mexican visa process. Thanks. In this video you mentioned 6 months to enter into Mexico after getting the visa...I will listen again, but you stated 30 days to make appointment with IMN. Is that 30 after entering Mexico with visa or 30 after getting visa. 😊
@WiseOwl-1
@WiseOwl-1 2 жыл бұрын
You have 30 days after entering Mexico to make the appointment. On your FMM card, there is a box “Tipo de Viaje/Type of Trip” where you need to check “Otro/Other…DO NOT check “Tourismo/Tourism”. There is another box in the “USO OFICIAL” section that the immigration agent MUST check named “Canje” and stamp your visa (in your passport) with the entry date. They also stamped my FMM with the “CANJE” stamp. Canje means “exchange”

Hi Alex! Thank you for providing such wonderful and informative content. I have a question that you may be able to clarify. When applying for a temporary visa, you are asked to provide 6-12 months of income verification or proof of savings/investments. Does the income requirement only include proof of past income at the time of application? Do you have to show any proof of future income? I intend to start the application process 6 months prior to retiring and moving to Queretaro. At that time I will be able to provide plenty of income proof because I will still be working and will easily meet the requirements. After I retire my income will be reduced, of course. Are they only concerned with present/past income in making a decision to grant temporary visas? Also, does the savings/investment requirement consider taxes that will be owed once the investments are cashed in?

If you marry a Mexican National, in Mexico (and don't have to go to a Mexican Consulate in the US, Canada, etc.) then how do they calculate the "income requirements" for the "immigrant" (and/or the couple?) intending thereafter to reside and work, in Mexico? (presume then the income and/ or savings required, would be significantly LESS... than say a US, CA, etc. resident(s) who aren't granted "permanent residency," or 'citizenship' status??) Also, if a marriage ultimately doesn't work out, and one has acquired Mexican residency (after two years, etc.) would that residency status, remain "permanent?"

the only way to get a residence permit directly in the country if you do it for the purpose of reunification as a Mexican child. But how do you explain that to the officer at the border and how do you fill out the FFM card in this case? Also 30 days and reason other indicates ? Isn't it easier to indicate tourist to avoid unnecessary questions?

Bringing a car into Mexico (when you want Temp Residency status) can be risky. Foreign-plated cars are often targeted by thieves, and if your car (which you brought in on a TIP) gets stolen then you owe the Mexican government a tax/fine of 40% of the car's value.

@@babyjebus You got this totally wrong. The USA and Eritrea are the only two countries in the world which make their citizens pay income tax, on income earned outside of their countries. Mexico does not tax income of its citizens on income earned outside of Mexico -- this is the rule (the USA is a big exception to this rule). It seems you have a lot to learn here. Summary: US Citizens earning income working online from the US need not to pay any Mexican income tax, since that income has been earned in the US. If that income is earned in Mexico, then that income would be subjected to Mexican income tax.

Thank you very much for answering so many question. I am still a bit confused. Do we need to go to Mexico to have this online interview with the consulate, or can have it while we still are in our country? Do we need to pick up the residency card in Mexico in the INM office, or can still get it mailed to us while in the country we live in right now? Also what if the dependent person will get only a short time for their tourist visa on the border? I have heard that some people got a very short time, even only a couple of days? Or perhaps, when they travel with a temporary resident, they automatically get longer tourist visa and if yes, usually for how long?
@alex-wittman
@alex-wittman 2 жыл бұрын
The interview is done at a consulate--which is outside of Mexico. After a successful interview, you will have your visa & you travel to Mexico with that. You have to finish the process in Mexico at INM to get your residency card. Both parts must be done in person. The length of the tourist will be at the discretion of the agent, but if you explain the situation, they should give at least 30 days.

Hi Alex, I am already living in Mexico and desperate to get my permanent residency. I have already paid 2 different lawyers to help me over a year ago, and I am no closer. I have my financial solvency documents translated by an official translator, but they might be stale now. I don't travel well for health reasons, so I can't travel far to get back to the U.S. consulate (e.g., no Sentri card). San DIego is my choice, and they have not had appointments available any time I've checked or my lawyer has checked in the last year. Are there any hardship exception that allow starting the process in Mexico? I don't know how many times I can renew my FMM card. Suggestions?

I don't know if this applies to you, but in Mazatlan you can go to INM with an expired FMM and - if you are retired (60 or above) and meet the financial requirements - you can be granted a Temporary Residency card on the spot. I read this on several Facebook pages for expats in Mazatlan. It's not widely publicized and the program could expire without notice, but others have done it within the past couple of months. It might be worth looking into.

Does anyone happen to know how to make an appointment via the INM to do the canje(switch)? I got recedency but the embassy (EU country), just said i needed to go on the site of INM to make the appointment. Ok, so i did, only to find it cannot be translated to English, eventhough they said it does, and now I can’t seem to find where to go on site, to make this appointment. It was said to me that it’s better to make the appointment before flying in to Mexico, because the spots fill in quickly. I was also trying to navigate and find it myself, as my Spanish is ok, but I don’t speak “embassy language”. Using Google translate. But its still pretty confusing on the site, cause there was no start point given, from where i could just go on. Is there a certain sentence or word i should be looking for? It seems all the YT video's seem to not mention this specific part. Sorry about the whole Dissertation 🙈😩

First, you need to fill out a tramite to get a numero de pieza & then you use that number to make an appointment. I explain how to do the tramite in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y5iEaJOYmMjHaZc.html

You can have a different last name than your husband. If you were married in the US, go to the Secretary of State website for the state where your marriage certificate is from and they will have instructions for how to get the apostille.
