I am now doing my prerequisites to become a dental hygienist. I’m really excited about the career, but due to having chronic depression in my teenage years, I could not perform self care tasks like brushing my teeth. I now have periodontitis. I feel like no one will want to hire me because they will think I either don’t know how to take care of teeth, or that I will be a bad image for their business. I feel very ashamed for it.

My youngest and last baby will be starting pre-k at the end of 2024, so I'll have more freedom to focus on improving my career and education. 🎉 I never graduated HS, so I'm starting from the very bottom with needing to get my HSED first. My end goal is to become a RDH ❤ I'm researching and learning as much as possible to make it there! I really appreciate all of your informative content 😊 I already memorized teeth numbers and what each surface is called and where it's located on the tooth thanks to your videos!! I'm in dental assisting school (graduate in October) and plan to go to Carrington college after a year in the field. They require you to have dental experience!! They also teach all your pre rec's there so no need to get them done first! I'm so excited to move on in a career Im actually excited about. I watch all your videos because they give me such a heads up into the field!!!

So I want to become a hygienist first and if I like that I want to go to Dental School, but I was wondering what are peoples opinions on balance and how possible it is to be a Dental Hygienist and go to Dental School at the same timel?!? I’m trying to find information on people who went to hygienist school then went on to dental school, but I can’t find anything. I felt like it would be clever so that way a person can do hygienist work while in dental school that way they could really gain a unique experience from the craft and have a job. Do people really do this though?

How long does it take to get your prerequisites done for dental hygiene at a 4 year school vs a 2 year?

If you have already have a Bachelor’s Degree in another field and have taken majority of the Pre Reqs. Will you still have to retake it to apply to dental hygiene school ? It’s been 9 years since I took the classes .

I'm taking my last two prerequisite classes this fall and i should be graduating by 2021. Long overdo. I'm just ready to have my career and do a job that i love and not just work for money. Dead end jobs are the worst.

In Canada, Ontario they only look at your highschool level science classes as prerequisite.
