The Buddhist practice of mindfulness of death explained. Establishing the mind upon the context implicit in one's existence --- one's own mortality.
Death is the possibility that is certain.

There are subtle energies seemingly recording every moment of aggregates. They as I suspect would strongly manifest at the moment of death. BTW Ajahn breath out is unavoidable. Thats the end of this form. Awareness is this weird great beyond and it can not be considered mystical but home like feel. Realizing those realms (jhanas) is the end of ignorance. I am looking forward to listen to your Dhamma videos and going forward. Thank you, Sadhu, All the best.

Thank you, Bhante. How do I reconcile the fact that nothing is under my control yet I am the owner of my actions (and their consequences)?

Dear Bhante, You have said in various talks that marananussati is "the quickest and sharpest way". To be concise; are you referring here to the ariyasavaka, or to the puthujjana (in order to obtain the right view, that is)? I know that there is no "method" or anything like that ("trying to understand", and so forth). Just to be clear, this question serves only as an anxious attempt at 'speeding up the process', so to speak. I have given rise to a great sense of urgency -- a result of contemplating death, of course -- and I have no qualms about 'scraping the barrel' for whatever tidbit you can throw my way. I expect a "there are no shortcuts" type of answer, but so be it. As before, I'm as grateful as my name indicates. You've more or less given me the opportunity to attempt this, and I fully intend to use it as far as life will allow. My sincere thanks to all of you over there.

That's correct, it applies only to an ariyasavaka. Also, 'sense of urgency' must not be mistaken with 'rush'.

@@HillsideHermitage Thank you, Bhante. If you would elaborate on the second part of your answer: What exactly would you say differentiates the attitude of a 'rush' vs a 'sense of urgency'? I'd say that obviously understanding cannot be rushed in the sense of doing the job half-heartedly, but isn't it right to be "in a rush" when it comes to such a terrifying situation (the state of being a puthujjana, that is)?
@HillsideHermitage
@HillsideHermitage 3 жыл бұрын
"Sense of urgency" means allowing concern and anxiety over one's situation to endure for as long as it wants as the motivation for sense restraint and efforts towards understanding. "Rush" means trying to deal with the it as quick as possible, i.e. get rid of the pain and anxiety.
