Good explanation, thanks! ☺ One little thing I would add: when you measure cylindrical objects, always check cylindricity. Otherwise when you rotate the object, you'll get a different reading. Perfect circles are not so common.
@apprenticemath7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Circularity, cylindricity, concentricity, parallelism and flatness are going to be on another video.

Find reliable retailers nearby, where you can return stuff if you don`t like it. Take close-up pictures of models you find at retailers around you. Compare surface finish and fit. For ease of reading consider models with crisp lines and numbers, whatever you find easy to read. Stainless steel tools are your best bet for long life. Plastic knobs and parts melt if you put it on a just welded hot work piece. Starrett and Mitutoyo are top of the line, ($150), I bought mine at Lee Valley, about $25.

Why did he not multiply the reading from the vernier scale by 0.05?
@BedsitBob5 жыл бұрын
You missed one of the measuring options. You can use the rear of the caliper to measure the length of an object, which is hard up against something, like say a machine table.

I don't understand say the Caliper is passed the number I just do not get how to get the first whole number?
@apprenticemath7 жыл бұрын
Step 1: Count how many (whole number) millimeters the sliding scale zero has passed by on the main scale Step 2: Find which of the sliding scale marks line up with any of the main scale lines. Step 3: Read the number off the sliding scale at the best alignment spot

In this calliper, one vernier scale division is larger than main scale division. The least count is 1 MSD-1VSD. In the video, LC is written as 0.05 mm which is doubtful. To get a LC of 0.05mm, 19 main scale divisions have to accommodated in 20 VSD. Then only one VSD will be equal to 19/20 ie 0.95 mm. There is something wrong with the markings

I also saw your imperial vidieo and this was very clear. But the metric scale it is to me very unclear why you do not use the centimeters first as whole number like you did with the inches. So 0.695 cm. It clearly says 15 CM om the caliper, not MM
@robsalaysay11418 жыл бұрын
we are talking mm here sir,,not cm but mm that is why you can say direct the smallest measure is point zero five mm.
