-Because of Tim McCarver's passing, I'm uploading this better quality version of his first regular season Mets broadcast from Opening Day 1983, which was also Tom Seaver's return to the team (for just that one season as it turned out). Lower quality versions have been on YT before but this is more complete and I've also restored the near complete Kiner's Korner postgame show using this and one other source. It would be the first game in a 16 year stint in the Mets television booth for McCarver, during which time he was hired by ABC and saw his national profile boosted and which in turn led to his stints on CBS and FOX.

I was at this game. Can't believe it's been over 40 years. I remember the chills when Seaver walked in from the bullpen.

Seaver actually pitched well for the '83 Mets with a 3.55 Era in 34 starts but had a losing record. He then went on to the Whitesox in '84 and back to his winning days.

Unfortunately, as a rookie announcer McCarver did not understand the magnitude of Seaver's return for Mets fans and Kiner also passed it over in the intro...Sadly I still remember how dissapointed I was as a kid...

A great game with so many historically significant players. McCarver is already showing his broadcasting greatness!

Wow this is a flashback I was a 14 yr old Mets fan and hearing these guys call the game brings back great memories of my youth with the culmination of the 86 Championship ! Thanks

In the 8th inning, Steve Zabriske makes an amateur mistake when he references the Tug McGraw “Ya Gotta Believe” year as 1969 rather than 1973. Zabriske is a foreshadow of the generic FSN Regional Broadcasters in the 2000’s who are smooth but boring.

I was at this game to see the return of the greatest pitcher of our time. Sat right behind the 1B dugout.

Wow, I've been a Tim McCarver fan for a long time, and this is the first time I've seen this in my life! And this coincides with Tom Seaver's return. You could feel the excitement in the air. Lots of great names on that day, including Pete Rose and Mike Schmidt, and more. Thanks so much for the upload!
