Well, very helpful. I pick my Tuareg 660 up today! My dealer is the largest in our region of the country he claims, but will definitely be charging me for labor when resetting the computer even if I do the maintenance ($75 I think). I asked him about it because I live 3 hours away so will be doing much of my own work on the bike. I am jealous you get such a good dealership. I bought a car down there when my parents lived in SC and they were great, too. One of the benefits of living in the south.

I've heard that a lot of dealers do charge. I'm so sorry your dealer won't work with you a little on that. It's literally a 5-minute job. Why not just be nice about it and give your customers a break in the name of "excellent service"? 🙂 Thanks for watching and commenting. We have an entire playlist about the Tuareg with lots of cool tips and tricks if you want to check some of the other videos out: kzfaq.info/sun/PLMpCu16Bx7xMLl4ieTqBAce95UHO5UuGT&si=AYC4k3arSrDLgozq

Yeah, pretty much every bike has a "First Service" around 600 miles. I know my CB500X did. Unfortunately, the previous owner traded it in before the first service had been done. Luckily, the dealer took $500 off my price to compensate me for having to do it. And it only cost me $245. So it was a win! 🙂

@@mikec9162 I did a lot of research on this engine, which has received much praise in it's RS660 sports bike and Tuono 660 naked bike heritage. It's got a very similar 270 crank to most of the Japanese competitors like the T7 and Transalp. Aprilia just seems to have gotten things "spot on" with this machine! The reason why it's so good is because they really didn't have an adventure bike in their lineup. So they took a no-holds approach and designed it from the ground up to be the best it could be. Companies like Honda have to be careful because they already have other ADV bikes in their lineup. In Honda's case, they can't make it as good as the Africa Twin or they'll piss of those owners and lose sales on future Africa Twins. Which is why a lot of reviewers are saying the Transalp feels stripped down (tubed tires, no cruise control, mediocre suspension, etc.) So we'll see how the Tuareg fares over time. But as you know, I typically buy one bike and keep it for the long haul. So I wouldn't have bought the Tuareg if I didn't think it was going to be a dependable machine. Plus I do most of my own servicing. I've got a Honda dealer 10 miles from my house. But I never once took my CB500X in for an oil change, chain and sprockets, air filter, etc. I looked at all the usual maintenance items on the Tuareg and they are all easily managed by an average "wrencher" like me. Anyway, we'll definitely test her out for you guys! If nothing else, it'll be a good experiment!!! 🙂

Good morning. The dealer resetting service lights at no cost is really valuable. I assume when they do that they will also update software if warranted…something you won’t get if you purchase an OBD2 devise. I was told my dealer charges $60 for service reset which is disappointing I think. Thanks for sharing the experience, fun to meet the team in Savannah.

Hey Bill! Thanks for the great comments. $60 is actually pretty reasonable. From what I've heard, some Aprilia dealers charge as much as $75 from that.

@MotoPhotoAdventures I get it. It doesn't really matter and I wasn't arguing the point with you. I just recalled what I saw recently on AF1's website. AF1 has such a big presence in the Aprilia world, so their claim makes sense. All that really matters though is that an individual owner's dealership is a good one ... your's seems to be. Enjoy the ride!

After two years with my 500X, I have been looking to upgrade to a higher performance bike with the Tiger 900 or the Taurag being my choices so far. Interesting to hear the comments from George especially the warning light coming on at 3000. I couldn't quite hear all that he said. Is that every 3000 it has to be reset? I look forward to seeing more from you regarding this bike. Not so easy to get one here in Australia, just have to wait for supply to arrive.

Hi Jeff! That's exactly where I was when I decided to buy the Tuareg. I rode the Tiger 900 Rally Pro and Africa Twin. Both were reviewed here on the channel. Both were too big and heavy for me. So the decision came down to the Yamaha T7, Honda Transalp 750, and Aprilia Tuareg 660. The Tuareg was the clear winner in the end. So far I'm in love with it!!!

What about the warranty if you do your own service? In Norway you loose the warranty.
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 11 ай бұрын
Is warranty void if not serviced by dealer? In America, the answer is no. “The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act was a law that was passed in the 1970s and states that it's not legal to require the use of a manufacturer part or service in order to maintain a warranty.”
@Jarlecritters
@Jarlecritters 11 ай бұрын
@@MotoPhotoAdventures Yes sir, you will loose the warranty if not serviced by a shop and you get the stamp in the service manual. Ohh i didn't know about that law, but it seems to me a litle strange., so i can do my own service.. But then the shop/factory will not know if i really did the service and that is something i just lie about. And no shop will actully know if i am a "skild " mechanic? Great thing for the customer to serve the bike, well earned money and i am all up for that but yet again a litle "strange law"
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 11 ай бұрын
@@Jarlecritters I have good friends that are Norwegian, btw. You should watch this fun clip to see me interview him and hear what nickname our Sweedish friends gave him: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z62jZNR4vcy9g4U.html. 🙂 Anyway, I can't speak for how the laws work in Norway. But in America, companies can not form a monopoly and can not restrict "free enterprise". Last year, a class-action lawsuit was brought against Harley Davidson for trying to force owners of it's motorcycles to only use THEIR parts and services. In this lawsuit, you'll read that the FTC specifically told Harley Davidson that claiming buyers MUST use their parts and services is illegally restricting customer's rights. Harley Davidson was forced to add these statements to their paperwork: “Taking your product to be serviced by a repair shop that is not affiliated with or an authorized dealer will not void this warranty” and/or “using third-party parts will not void this warranty." Here are the findings by the Federal Trade Commission: www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2022/10/ftc-approves-final-orders-right-repair-cases-against-harley-davidson-mwe-investments-weber#:~:text=After%20a%20public%20comment%20period,illegally%20restricting%20customers'%20right%20to. Think about how damaging it would be to the whole industry if you as a consumer couldn't add an aftermarket exhaust pipe, or choose which brand of oil you want to use, or put another manufacturer's skid plate on your bike. Harley Davidson, or Aprilia, or Honda could charge you $1000 for a shift lever if they wanted to and you would have to pay it! Look at how many people discuss the week shift-lever bolt on the Tuareg 660. If you can't put in a better after-market titanium bolt...you are forced to use their bolt that could leave you stranded if it breaks. Or look at the Tuareg 660 air filter! Many owners claim the OEM filter does not work well in dusty conditions. That's why so many riders in Australia have switched to the UNI filter. I definitely understand your point. But if you have been around motorcycles all your life, changing the oil, replacing the air filter, or bleeding the brakes, are all very common and simple maintenance procedures that anyone can do...even if they are not a skilled mechanic. Of course if you are not comfortable doing some things, you shouldn't do them. For me, I always take major services like valve adjustments to the dealer because I know the limits of my skills. But for someone who has the tools and is really mechanically inclined, they should have the right to make such adjustments themselves if they wish. Of course they understand if they break it, it's their fault! But if they succeed in making the adjustments successfully, good for them. I hope this helps!
