During their spring tour, we had State Champs stop by the AP offices for an acoustic session and Q&A, which we broadcast live on Twitch TV. The guys played a small audience of fans three songs, including "Simple Existence," performed in this video by frontman Derek DiScanio and guitarist Tyler Szalkowski.

Derek said in an interview on "Beers with the Band" that he used to be in a hardcore band and screamed, hence is ability to control the power and those gritty notes which slay your soul

Derek is probably one of the best singer of the pop-punk scene ... Saw them in Belgium and he's never out of tune and so powerful ! So much respect for him !

I love Derek hes my fav state champs is prob my all time fav pop punk band besides mayday parade such a nice down to earth guy besides Ryan and he grew up 2p mins form my hometown so sc has a personal place in my heart

When it comes to this style of music there's Derek, Parker, and then everyone else. Derek is the sweet to Parker's sour. The honey to his vinegar if you will.

tbh he sings with his throat a lot which is bad but thats where his power comes from, so if you were to train your diaphragm and sing correctly, with enough force you could do some makeshift "raspiness" but it also depends on if your voice can take it, some peoples voices just crack instead

It looks like Kenny Vasoli harnessed his man juice, then kept it in a cryogenic chamber in his basement (that I'm certain is decorated with pictures of himself) while he researched cloning, and then cooked you up in his lab.
