Have you considered doing a video on each of the A Level Chemistry required practicals? Similar to the way Science Shorts did with Physics. Love your videos; they are so bloody helpful! I will be sure to donate to say a big thank you!

I think your teaching style and the way you go about not jargonising the terms to be 'scarier' then they really are is sure effective for me. Your videos have made up the majority of my revision just to watch when I am on the bus or whatever and I have now been predicted an A* thanks to your help. I cannot thank you enough.

Hi there, I think your video's are fantastic and you've been a great help throughout my year of AS Chemistry. I was just wondering whether you could cover the Analytical Techniques of Alcohols, as I believe this features in the specification. Also, this isn't related to this video in particular, but is there any chance of you making a video on the 6/7 required practicals we have to learn for this upcoming AS exam? And is there a possibility of also making a video on the Mass Spectrometer in the topic of Atomic Structure? Sorry to be a pain!

Honestly your videos are mega been using them for a while now and massively helping particularly with me having to teach myself the work because of Corona.

I know this is a long shot but is there any chance of covering some of the WJEC spec? There are literally no videos of the old spec A2 on youtube the lack of resources for us is embarrassing, thankyou very much for the videos though great stuff
@MrERintoul8 жыл бұрын
+jake Unfortunately not. It's not that I don't want to, I just don't have the time to do it. You should find that there is a lot of cross-over between AQA and WJEC (although there will likely be some differences too).

Excellent video! I just started doing 3.3.5.1/2/3 today, so this is excellent timing. I have some what of a request/suggestion - the AQA has provided specimen papers on their website for the upcoming AS/A2 papers, perhaps you could do a work through of them? On a personal note - I'm a private candidate doing the AS & A level together this year and your videos are a massive help, I will certainly be making a donation to your paypal as I always give credit where its due so thank you!

+R Marsh Ah well that is a good thing! I'm literally in the process of uploading a video on the production of ethanol as I type this so that should also help! Hmm. I may do. With my teacher hat on I am always wary of going through certain papers as I know that people may want to use them as mocks. That said, they are already publicly available so I guess a video wouldn't hurt. Watch this space! And you certainly don't need to do that, but thank you for your kind words!

+E Rintoul Brill thanks! In your personal opinion as a teacher; would working through each unit systematically (e.g. 3.1.1 > 3.1.2 etc.), then moving on to the next unit (3.2.1 > 3.2.2 etc) until you've covered the AS spec before going on to the A level stuff in the same fashion a good way to work through the syllabus? I'm on the last 2 sub-units now of AS Organic Chem & then that's AS covered and I haven't had any problems yet.
@MrERintoul8 жыл бұрын
R Marsh Yeah that's how I would work it. Are you planning on sitting any AS exams? Have you managed to cover all of those topics since September?!
@rmarsh36668 жыл бұрын
+E Rintoul Yeah that seemed the most straight forward. I'm sitting my AS papers and my A2 papers in 2016, and believe it or not I have covered all of it in a month - I was in mechanical engineer for an offshore company, but due to the recent oil crash I've been out of work and am retraining as a chemical engineer - I have a lot of time to devote to chemistry (4-5 hrs a day broken up much alike periods in school). I'm pretty confident I can achieve the A I need to get on the course I want at university.
@MrERintoul8 жыл бұрын
R Marsh Ah I see! Well I hope everything goes well! I didn't realise that the A2 papers would be available to sit this year? You've got some work ahead of you, but if there's anything I can help you with, just let me know.

How similar/different do you predict the new exams will be this year? wondering just how useful past papers actually are considering the specimens are quite different. Really love the videos by the way, really help, thank you :)

Can you be my teacher please XD, really good simple video. And for secondary alcohol, why does it stop? is it because there isn't another hydrogen atom to further oxidise it?

why does it need to be acidified k2cr2o7?
@ambience96167 жыл бұрын
Chromium has, in K2Cr2O7, an oxidation state of +6. It's in a very happy position here to reduce itself to Cr(III). So it will gladly oxidize the alcohol in the process. We use it because, this makes it an awesome oxidizing agent.

What happens when you add Tollen's reagent to a keytone?
@rebeccaellis62998 жыл бұрын
Nothing! Because the ketone can't be further oxidised, it can't loose any electrons to be given to the ions in Tollens solution for the silver to separate and form the mirror on the test tube! Hope this helps :)

What if there is an alcohol with two hydroxyl groups? How would you know if it is a primary secondary or tertiary?
@goldenmonkyz7 жыл бұрын
we may not need to know about that but check the specification and see what it says
