This. I was thinking about it myself, and as you say although it is a very mundane thing, it is something you'd only be witness to when in close company with that person. So it feeds into the parasocial relationship fantasy some people have with vtubers/idols/etc. And once a few people got fired up about it, the rest of the chat joins in because they found it amusing seeing others get excited for it whether they knew the reason or not. Combined with Aqua being a little confused and embarrassed to it, which in itself is entertaining.

Seriously, the sound of a hairdryer is such a calming sound. The hair drying is the perfect amount of pitch and volume. Personally, my favourite white noise is my computer, it got a nice medium to low pitch with a medium to low volume. And sometimes it breaks up the static monotone sound with a short burst of higher-pitched sounds.

I think the most surprising part of all this is to find out I’ve been using my hair dryer the same way as a Japanese girl. I’m a guy with short hair but I start on heat low then cool high. I just figured they have those settings for a reason. Heat high starts to feel like I’m cooking my scalp and cool high just feels so much nicer than cool low.
