What a pretty soap. Great job! Your mixture remained fluid long enough to create beautiful swirls. I just made a batch that went from fluid to accelerated in like 10 seconds. The batch started seizing before I could even add my clays, colors, or fragrance.

@es Johnson Thank you for your question! I don't offer recipes as part of my videos since they aren't intended as tutorials. I have used a variety of recipes over the years and have found that recipes are just one of many variables in the soap making process. It can be difficult to re-create certain designs just for that reason. I love how this one turned out, but I've yet to achieve this exact same look in any batch since! Soap Queen TV and Soaping 101 on KZfaq include good, basic recipes for cold process soap in their videos, and are great resources. Also, below is a helpful link for creating cold process soap recipes. All the best to you in your soapmaking journey! www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/formulating-cold-process-recipes/

Hi Lynda! I always like to add the heavy cream to my oils and blend it in before I add the lye solution. There is more than one way to do it, though. Other soap makers like to add it at light trace. It's just my preference to add it at the very beginning. :) Thanks for watching and for your question!

Hi Debbie, I just watched your first 4 videos. This one, Aqua Spa, was recommended to me today. I have to say you are doing a fantastic job, with these videos. I was a little disappointed, after hearing you talk on the last 2, that you just played music on the first two. You are very pleasant to listen to, and I like how you explain things, and what your idea is for your swirl. They all turned out so beautiful, by the way. And your teardrop was excellent! Keep going! Do you mix your colorants with oil? If so, do you just pour some of your already measured oil into each mixing container to keep your measured amounts correct?
@blackberryridgesoap-debbie2520
@blackberryridgesoap-debbie2520 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Elizabeth! I do mix my micas with oils. I don't use my already measured batch oils, although, I know many soap makers do it that way. I use a light weight oil (olive oil) and usually mix 1 part mica to 2 parts oil. I like to do it that way, but using batch oils also works! There is room for flexibility when superfatting a batch, and there times when I may not even use all of the mica colorant I mix. For such a small amount of additional oil, it doesn't make a big difference in the end result., in my opinion.

@blackberryridgesoap-debbie2520
@blackberryridgesoap-debbie2520 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Betty, the maximum skin exposure level in soap for Aqua Spa from Wholesale Supplies Plus is listed on their website as 2.5%. So, for 36 oz of oils that would be less than 1 ounce. For Wholesale Supplies Plus that information is found under 'Additional Details' for each fragrance. It's a very necessary and helpful tool in knowing how much fragrance to safely use. Hope this helps!

There are so many variables that can affect soap making! I always try to use fragrances that won't accelerate trace. Also, I try to soap at room temp, and that can help keep soap more fluid. I hope you find colorants that work better for you! Thank you for watching and commenting, Kimberly and Emylia!

Hi. I do not speak your language, use the translator. I am a follower of your videos, you love me, you're an artist. I begin now to make soaps and I have a doubt, titanium dioxide add what I dissolved in water? the amount of liquid you use do you subtract the initial amount? or not has nothing to do for the final result? Thank you for your attention and make known your soaps. Warm greetings

Thank you for your nice comments! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. To answer your question, I don't subtract the amount of water mixed with the titanium dioxide from the initial amount. In my experience, it isn't enough to affect the final result. I hope this helps!

When I've tried to make swirled soaps, I've had it accelerate so quickly it was too thick to pour. Any suggestions on how to avoid that?
@blackberryridgesoap-debbie2520
@blackberryridgesoap-debbie2520 5 жыл бұрын
There can be so many variables that can contribute to a batch accelerating. It can be such a frustrating experience! Using full water, rather than discounting it, can help keep soap batter more fluid. Also, checking out how a fragrance behaves before using it, can help you know what to expect. I didn't always do that, but I do now! :) In addition, over blending can cause a batch to thicken more quickly. Stick blenders are a great tool, but it is possible to move the process along too quickly when using them. I've learned that the hard way! Lastly, a soap recipe can sometimes affect whether or not a batch accelerates. The Soap Queen blog has a great section on tips for making cold process soap. Here is a link to a blog post on formulating a recipe and how the oils you choose can affect the batch. www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/formulating-cold-process-recipes Hope these suggestions help, Elizabeth! Best of luck! Debbie

Nicole, thank you for your question. Understandable that you're wondering about some of these things. A basic lye solution includes water and the chemical NaOH (lye). The amount of lye used is dependent on the recipe you're using. You're doing the right thing by asking questions. A great video describing working with lye is on Anne-Marie's Soap Queen channel. It is the first of a series of videos for those just starting out. Here is the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r7hmp9d0uNiwen0.html In it, she also recommends a couple of books for those new to soap making. I hope this helps!

Hi Katya! I'm just now seeing your question. The fragrance oil is being added at 5:10. I like to mix my colors first, then add the fragrance to each individual container. Thank you for watching!

Vicky, all of the colorants (oxides, micas and pigments) I use are skin safe for use in cold process soap and/or melt and pour soap. Good question!
