Please join me as I explore and metal detect this old home that was built long before the Civil War and actually housed several wounded Southern soldiers during the war. I search for any evidence of that but surprisingly find mostly coins and other items dating around the World War Two era and also some pre-Civil War civilian artifacts.

That spoon bowl with holes in was half of a tea making device. The missing half had a second bowl which had a sprung hinge. The spoon was filled with tea and used for making an individual cup of tea. I think they were sold in Woolworths stores in the UK. My mother had one 65 years ago.

The original "Church Key" was a bottle opener, that kind of looked like an ornate church-key. Think of a skeleton key with a big loop for the keyring. Lots of guys carried them to open bottles of beer. Then later when beer cans become more common, the triangle opener was added to the other end. Then they eventually replaced the ring with the bent pry bar because they were cheaper and easier to stamp manufacture. The old name just stayed with them, even though they no longer resembled a church-key.

One of the many of reasons I love your videos is your sharing your finds as you uncover them. We would frequently have mallards nest close to the house and enjoyed "hatching day" as mama would lead a trail of ducklings to the nearest water which was almost 2 blocks away. Thanks for the memories.

The brass nut with the piece threaded into it looks like a split bolt connector missing it's top half. One company that makes them is Burndy. It's a connector commonly used to connect power to houses from the pole. The black balls at the top of the service entry on most homes have one of these inside.

That brass nut is actually an electrical silica bronze split bolt. Linesmen used them and can could be explained by the u shaped nail found nearby. Guy most likely had it fall from his bag when servicing the power lines.
