LOVE Aqua Quest tarps. Just the 10x7 is just a tad short to be ideal for my own preference. I still like the 10x7 Aqua Quest Defender. Just that the 10x10 gives that bit more coverage while not adding too much to carry and not too much more $$ at checkout. On the flip side the 15x15 is beautiful BUT is huge and heavy. 4x4 meter DD is another GORGEOUS selection for LOTS of room at a good price, weight and pack ability. These are my own opinions others may differ greatly 😅. Aqua Quest Defender tarps are awesome all sizes just a tough, tough tarp worth every dime. Rant, tangent, rabbit hole now complete-😊

I have the 7x10 and 10x10 defender and use the 7x10 more for solo camping. It’s just personal preference.

I picked up two Aqua Quest tarps last year the 7x10 guide and 10x10 Defender. Over the last few years I stocked up on some decent equipment and just put it away for a rainy day. This world seems to be going crazy real fast. Between the insanity on the other side of this world and global warming who knows what's next. We still have underground fires burning here in Canada from last Fire season so I have a feeling this is going to be even worse this year. It's good to be prepared.

Absolutely can not go wrong with AQUAQUEST. And having a couple put away is just being prepared.

I got mine last summer and just got it out now, just in a room. Didn't want to do it before going camping but had to hahah love it, wanna cry out of happines when seeing it. So so robust. Not the first one I had. Had 15x15 and was too big and give it as a gift to a mate. I find this 10x7 perfect for my needa and bugout bag

I Just ordered and received my SAFARI HYBRID TARP 10X13 Camo tarp from Aqua quest. I set it up with dutch fleas at all the tie outs on stretchy cord, for my hammock set up, I like the bigger 10x13 for full coverage and a porch if the weather is crappy. I have a few of their tarps including the guide and defender series, love their gear.

This my fave 7x10 setup. I have the Aquaquest 7x10 Guide, which at 9 oz, weighs the same as my 5x8 MEST tarp. The Guide is nearly as compressible as the MEST, and obviously much roomier. The MEST is a pretty tight fit for my lab retriever and me. She gets a little claustrophobic in there. Only difference between the Guide and Safari is 40D vs. 70D nylon. Both are 5000mm hydro. I dunno...I've had the Guide out in heavy wind and rain and found it to be plenty stout, and I usually set it up the same way you have here. The Guide doesn't seem to get the love of the other Aquaquest tarps. Not sure why, really. Maybe because they call it a "backpacking" tarp. Mine has proven itself over and over again and I don't baby it. The MEST makes for a great ground cloth. Together they weigh under 2 lbs.

Very nice! I carry the MEST tarp, or poncho in my chest kit bag. Lately been carrying the Buscshcraft Outfitters 10x7 OCP tarp in my pack. Like the Safari, but my BCO tarp sets up close to a fire with no damage from embers. I use the Safari now as a summer tarp when fire season doesn't allow fires. Thanks for sharing!

Nice tarp. I have a DD 3x3 m (10x10) , also a grabber 5x7 & 6x8 & cheap poly 9x12 & a few others 😂. I keep 2 or 3 of the 9x12 in my truck at all times, never opened unless needed. But my favourite is my DD 3x3 just for the size & shape. I prefer a square tarp & what can be made with it. Really like my HD Poncho from Wilderness Innovations & thinking of getting there 8.5x8.5 tarp. Since I’m not sure about that size I’m going to make a plastic tarp that size to play with. Wilderness Innovations tarps comes with some bungee cords that are great for giving a little stretch to a line or closing up a doorway. I’ve made up some of these cords ... super handy to have. WI has a great KZfaq channel.

As far as I understand, the only difference between the Defender and the Safari series is the Defender has a 20,000mm hydrostatic head rating, while the Safari series only has a 5,000mm hydrostatic head rating. In comparison, DD tarps only have a 3,000mm hydrostatic head rating. Given both the Defender and the Safari series are constructed of 70D rip-stop nylon, both are pretty much bullet proof. The main, if not the only reason for the weight difference between the two Aquaquest tarps is the much thicker waterproof coating on the Defender series as compared to the Safari series.

Both work amazingly well! Biggest difference for me is packing size. The safari takes up much less space in a small day pack.

@@ochocobushcraft1742 Since many people across the pond as well as here in the U.S. rely on DD tarps which only have a 3,000mm hydrostatic head rating, I'd have to say that the 5,000mm rating of the Safari series should be plenty for just about any severe weather most of us will ever encounter. I have two Defender tarps, one DD tarp as well as some other brands of tarps and I must say that the Aquaquest tarps are head and shoulders above the rest. When it comes to quality of construction and materials used there's just no comparison. I'm pretty happy with my DD tarp and even with some of my other tarps, but if my life depended on it, I'd grab one of my Aquaquest tarps.

Very helpful. Thanks. It seems pretty waterproof. How much does it sag when wet? Does it get noticebly heavier when it rains?
@ochocobushcraft1742
@ochocobushcraft1742 Жыл бұрын
Holds up well. If it is pulled tight on ridge line and stakes, no sagging. No noticeable difference in weight.
